Bored in SoHo
I know, there is no reason to be. There are so many options here. But I need some suggestions and inspiration on where to get lunch. I really want some porchetta but can't go all the way up to 7th street. I don't have the energy to go explore Chinatown which is what I normally do when I don't have a specific plan. If I had the time I'd go to L'École and treat myself, but I don't. Any ideas? I've had enough Bahn Mi for now also...

Yeah, I like Despaña... Haven't been there in a while, maybe I should just get a pile of sliced ham, some bread and a piece of cheese. Kinda wanted something hot though. Any other suggestions?

Have you been to Keste yet?

Why don't you go to Dean and Deluca and just pick up some prepared food. Sometimes when I'm bored I like to have a million things to choose from. You could get an assortment of stuff. I don't know - maybe you wanted a sit-down meal though...maybe the Hampton Chutney Co. on Prince?

Mmmm, Despaña. What about Alidoro? Grandaisy? Papatzul? Oro Bakery?
kathryn at 12:02PM on 05/21/09
@Alaina - haven't been to Keste but it's a bit far, I'm on Grand and Bway.
@kathryn - Alidoro is yummy but not really in the mood for a sandwich, Papatzul is meh.
I think I'm going to just go to Grand St Deli and get a half roast chicken.

Mooncake Foods. La Esquina [take-away window].
The bento boxes at Sunrise are a pretty decent quick fix, too.

@pickle - thanks! very useful.
@cook - I have been curious about Mooncake. I'll check them out today. Anything in particular they are good at?

I've actually only had the miso salmon, which is delicious over brown rice (and I'm not usually a fan of cooked salmon). I've also heard good things about the steak kebabs, the pork chop, and their sandwiches. Be sure to ask for extra green sauce!
