Best Slice in the East Village
I'm staying in the East Village in two weeks and was wanting opinions on where to get a great slice of pizza in the East Village.
Thanks.

You've got Artichoke Basille Pizzeria on 14th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues and Una Pizza Napolitano on 12th Street and 1st Avenue.

Try Vinny Vincenz, Artichoke, and, though it's not in the East Village, Pizzeria di Santo is somewhat nearby (Lower East Side) and very good (171 Ludlow Street, Manhattan 10002 [map])
Una Pizza Napoletana is an excellent recommendation, momstheword, but Edwardkimuk asked for slices and UPN is whole-pie only.

This may sound crazy, too, but the plain regular slice at Viva Herbal is actually pretty good. 179 Second Avenue (b/n 11th/12th)

Mariella's on 16th & 3rd...not often talked about, but I grew up in the East Village and that pizza never disappoints (try the meatballs and eggplant parm hero, too). It's a real NYC slice

Luzzo's is worth checking out if you're in the mood to sit down and eat; coal oven and fresh buffalo mozz. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicksherman/3359494793/

It's not called Una for nuthin'. There's only one. 12th St. just east of 1st Avenue.

If you are going the pie route, I would go to UPN before Luzzo's.

i had dinner at UPD due to all of the enthusiastic recommendations here and was completely underwhelmed. did i go there on an off day or something? there were three of us and none of us liked our pizza very much. it was sort of flabby, and didn't have a lot of flavor. adam?

with all the UPN suggestion may have to give it a go
Edwardkimuk at 2:57PM on 05/04/09
Luzzo's is my favorite in the EV.
@cybercita: I'm with you on UPN, but we seem to be in the minority here. It is the most over rated pizza in the NYC, a little soupy, not flavorful and definitely not worth the price.

Well i went to Artichoke for a slice (couldn't face a whole pie anywhere as id been to Ssam Bar for lunch) it was great so thanks for the suggestion
