What exactly is "slab" bacon?

Is this the same as good old grocery store bacon, in the thick plastic packaging?

4 Comments:

It's bacon before it was cut into strips. In slab form.

We used to get it for Caldo Verde at the Portuguese markets in Newark, NJ...

Slab bacon is uncut bacon.

It is wonderful for many applications such as soups where you want a large dice of bacon in it.

I have found that it stores better this way as well. To use it all you need is a good sharp knife to slice it.
