My boyfriend got me this book called "Secret Suppers: Rogue Chefs and Underground Restaurants in Warehouses, Townhouses, Open Fields, and Everywhere in Between" and so far I love it. I don't doubt the book's validity; it was written by a woman whose articles I've read in the Los Angeles Times, but I find it hard to wrap my mind around the fact that so many people are having these "secret suppers" in basements, in backyards, and everywhere else.
Has anyone gone to one of these secret suppers? I guess you can find the dinners online through out the country. Many of them are thrown by avid foodies who love to cook. You can pay them a pretty hefty sum of money and in exchange, you go to their house and get treated to a six-course meal. It sounds interesting, but I'm wondering if any of my Serious Eaters have taken part in any of these secret suppers. If so, how'd it go? Would you do it again? Was the food good and was it worth the price of admission?
