Serious Screwup?
I was making a crockpot style pot roast this morning and did everything right until I got to the liquid part. I had two containers in my refrigerator. One held some beef broth the other some black olives in their liquid. Well duh I grabbed the olives dumped all the liquid into the crockpot and didn't realize it until I saw a bunch of olives at the bottom of the container. After eating a couple of the olives and thinking to myself now what, I decided to go ahead and throw in the beef broth and some water and hope for the best. Any advice, or comments on how you think this will taste? Anyone else ever do anything this stupid?

Lol, many times. At times I get the wrong item mistake salt for sugar ect. Spices getting the mix up of paprika and cayenne, that is a big surprise. There is a lot more and just can't think of anything off hand right now. Oh and by the way, how did it turn out?

It will probably taste just fine -- maybe it will have a slight olive taste, but as long as you're OK with that, it's good. Taste if later on today and if you're concerned, I would add several chopped up, sauteed garlic cloves and about a half cup of red wine. Those are both flavors that will go with the rest and will help tone down the olive flavor. You can also try adding half a teaspoon of dried thyme leaves or a few bay leaves.
Not anywhere near the worst screwup I've heard of!

Add some tomato product, serve over rice, and call it Ropa Vieja. Wouldn't hurt to add a side of plantanos, either.

I second the red wine idea - it can cut the taste of a lot of things, including burnt (not completely of course, but dull it a fair bit). I bet it will taste fine.
I've done plenty of "stupid" things like that - only natural in our busy world!

I bet it will be edible. And yes, I'm sure we all do silly things like this! I remember being a sleep-deprived teenager and pouring orange juice on my cereal instead of milk. More recently I was trying to impress a date with a homecooked dinner but he got me tipsy before we went shopping and I grabbed cilantro instead of parsley. Oops.

Well since I hate olives this would never have happened to me and I wouldn't like it either way. But I am curious if it does turn out for you. Please post tomorrow and let us all know!!

I think it will probably taste good, but it might be too salty with both olive brine and beef stock. Serving over rice (a la Kerosena's suggestion) or some other starch could help if this is a problem.

Add potatoes they soak up salt.

I've read that the potatoes removing salt trick actually doesn't work, and in my experience it does not. I'm too lazy to look it up, so you'll just have to trust me.

No, never.

In meat dishes and soups worked for me. Also celery is a filter veggie. Nothing blands a meal out like cut up potatoes.

Thank you for all the great suggestions. I went with what I had on hand.. a few stalks of celery and half an onion and you know it all came out just fine. LOL I did find one lone olive in the broth and no I didn't eat that one, I tossed it when no one was looking. Thanks again and have a beautiful day.

I had my turn last night -- decided to make chicken paprikash, and thought the cayenne was paprika. A large palmful of cayenne made for a verrry interesting dinner....
