Reeses Peanut Butter Eggs....Easter Nirvana?
Recently, it has come to my attention that several Serious Eaters have never consumed a Reeses Peanut Butter Egg. (Izatryit, in particular...the horror, Im aware. Someone light a candle for her tomorrow). In any case, several people have followed suit in their CLAIM to never have consumed the Easter time pat of deliciousness. I will be honest, I don't believe one of them except for Iz who doesnt turn her oven on. I believe, with my bullshit meter on high, that some proclaimed foodies are closet egg eaters and just dont want to own up. Im on my 900th egg of the season and enjoying every blissful moment of it! Please, I implore you, spend .50 at any mini-mart, grocery store, gas station in the universe and shove that thing in like your going to the chair!
So my SE pals, I bring you this....the Reese Peanut Butter Egg...Easter staple or wtf is a Reese Peanut Butter Egg?

@dearrie: Reese's peanut butter flags?
I have sadly never had a peanut butter egg - at least not that I recall, but I am on high alert for them as I (and the Boy) would like to try one.
thinkingincrayons at 1:48PM on 04/11/09
mini-mart. walgreens. rite aid. walmart. cvs. any grocery store. Run...do not walk to the closest location and covet thy egg. They will be gone by Monday. It is a LONG wait til Reese Christmas Trees come out.
ChelleyD01 at 1:51PM on 04/11/09
go to your nearest walgreens, as fast as possible. eat it in the car then go back in and buy more. no one will look twice because they are on the same journey. don't make eye contact with anyone.
dearrie at 1:51PM on 04/11/09
This foreigner, been in the states for only 7 years, have had the eggs before.
I hadn't been exposed to American food much when I encountered the PB egg, so the whole experience was quite shocking (this was even before my encounter to regular Reeses PB cups). Partly because regular chocolate sold here is like 3x sweeter than chocolate sold in my country, but mostly because I hadn't had PB+chocolate combo.
Now that I love PB+chocolate, I'll probably hit the supermarket after Easter to get discounted eggs.
hmw0029 at 2:01PM on 04/11/09
I adore the reeses peanut butter eggs.... have some waiting patiently for easter baskets tomorrow. It has almost killed me not to eat all of them myself. LOL. They are a must have every year.
Alm25 at 2:03PM on 04/11/09
My husband is completely addicted to them!! I've tried them but I've never been a reeses peanut butter cup fan so the eggs don't really do anything for me.
caramel at 2:07PM on 04/11/09
I too love the pb eggs. Do you guys have any idea why you like them so much though? I love Reese's pb cups, but my adoration for the eggs borders on the ridiculous. What is it about them?
jettabugfox at 2:16PM on 04/11/09
@jetta...I do not eat regular Reese Cups....just the egg, the tree and the heart. I cannot fathom what it is, all I know is that it better never go away.
ChelleyD01 at 2:29PM on 04/11/09
bahaha! LOVE the commercial!

You seriously don't believe me?
brooke29 at 2:44PM on 04/11/09
i do. heheeeeee. i like the big cup the best.
dearrie at 2:48PM on 04/11/09
I love Easter candy and all holiday candy in general. It's not really any better than regular candy, but the cute shapes and designs just make it more fun. Plus, the candy goes on clearance the day after the holiday, which makes it even better!
runnereater at 2:53PM on 04/11/09
@dearrie - I know you believe me! And why would I make this up?:-) In any case, I sent my OH to Walgreens...
brooke29 at 3:03PM on 04/11/09
lmao. as soon as my clothes are dry. i'm on my way. a lg. pk for him and one for me. i hide mine and help him eat his. that's love american style.
dearrie at 3:05PM on 04/11/09
I think they taste better than the regular Reese's Cups!
arm1970 at 3:14PM on 04/11/09
@arm1970 I completely agree! I love the soft consistency, and it tastes more peanut buttery to me than the typical Cups. Plus, I just can't help but love that it's in a fun shape ;)
poke87 at 4:28PM on 04/11/09
@ Brooklyn....alright, I believe you. I just got a text pic from Iz with proof that there is a Reese Heart (a little late, whatever) to possibly be consumed. I am sure she will chime in shortly. EAT. THE. DAMN. EGG.
ChelleyD01 at 4:31PM on 04/11/09
I just finished making 3 chocolate bunnies filled with pb and choc mixture. Each bunny weighs in at 3lbs. I make tiny little pb cups and stuff the bunny full of them. This year there was one peanut butter, one almond butter and one cashew butter. I'm so sick of looking at nut butter and choc I'm debating boycotting easter next year! I used to love reses cups but they were always just a little too sweet to me.
huneybumper at 5:13PM on 04/11/09
now that's pb love. or in my case a coma. lol
dearrie at 5:20PM on 04/11/09
I've never had one - only the pastel fun size cups - and I've since given up dairy, so I probably never will. Homemade peanut butter cups are easy enough, but too much effort when chocolate dipped in pb get the job done. :)
KarynMC at 5:25PM on 04/11/09
For anyone who is interested, Reese's has a chocolate, peanut butter Bunny called the "Reester Bunny", and they also have them in foil wrapped miniatures. Early in the season, I saw a huge Reese's Easter Egg, but they were sold out when I went to get them. My kids are Reese lovers.
dmcavanagh at 5:29PM on 04/11/09
I love the eggs - they are my favorite Reese's product. I think the reason I like them better is there is more peanut butter in the peanut butter to chocolate ratio. My favorite part of a regular PB cup is the middle circle and the eggs have so much more middle-ness to them.
CooksForOne at 6:12PM on 04/11/09
My journey to possess the coveted Reese egg was successful! I will not eat said egg, but will aspire to take it around the world, traveling to exotic destinations and sharing my new found knowledge with those who have lived without this sacred gift from the Gods of chocolate and peanut butter.
My friends, the Sisterhood of the Traveling Reese Egg has been born. I feel my destiny has been decided. I have been lost for way too long. I now know the true meaning of Nirvana.
izatryt at 6:14PM on 04/11/09
you need to buy another and eat it. at least one bite.
dearrie at 6:43PM on 04/11/09
Very, very much Easter Nirvana. The only Easter candy I will take over the Reeses Peanut Butter Egg is a Gertrude Hawk Peanut Butter Smidgen.
cycorider at 6:50PM on 04/11/09
Delicious! My Easter package from home just arrived and that was one of the first things I saw inside. Yay!
kfarrel3 at 7:15PM on 04/11/09
@ Iz....you are certifiable. I love you. See you on the other side, ya crazy thing.
ChelleyD01 at 9:10PM on 04/11/09
iz - I think the Sisterhood of the Traveling Reeses Egg would quickly become the Sisterhood of the Suitcase Full of Chocolate and Peanut Butter-Covered Clothes.
KarynMC at 9:23PM on 04/11/09
Ok if ya'll think the Reese's eggs are good, you HAVE to try the Trader Joe's version of Reese's Cups. I too loved Reese's candies...until I had TJ's. Trust me, there is no comparison. True, they don't come in eggs, but the quality of chocolate is way better, and the peanut butter is much creamier and softer (admit it - Reese's pb can get a little on the dry, crumbly side at times). I'll never go back. Oh, and fair warning - do not open them in the car unless you want to find them half gone by the time you get home.
kimberlymac at 9:31PM on 04/11/09
I couldn't find a reeses pb egg at basha's when I ran to the store today ... but they didn't have any other easter candy out either. wtf? I want my reeses egg! It's only Easter-related thing I actually bother with.
joyyy at 10:26PM on 04/11/09
@kimberly....been there and done that. TJs is a year round always available kind of thing. This is in reference to the Easter time treat of all treats...the Reese Peanut Butter Egg.
The TJs mini cups will suffice if needbe during NON-Easter seasons.
EGG. EGG. EGG. EGG.
ChelleyD01 at 10:47PM on 04/11/09
@Chelle - All right, I have it! Now, I need to create suitable circumstances to consume it so that I can fully enjoy it. I think. Unless I join Izzy's Sisterhood, that is. :-)
brooke29 at 10:57PM on 04/11/09
I have never had one either, but have to out and find them because I love Reese's anything.
pjracz10 at 7:57AM on 04/12/09
Just wanted to report back.. I couldn't wait till tomorrow, because we were hungry after going to a gym and needed some energy to run errands.
A 6 egg package was $3.50 at Walgreens.
Gained all the calories I burnt at the gym, but totally worth it.
hmw0029 at 6:00PM on 04/12/09
I've never heard of or seen such a thing, which kind of sucks, because that's gotta be good.
chisai at 8:46PM on 04/12/09
I generally dont eat any sweets EXCEPT for the eggs at EASTER, they are heaven.
WSLunch at 8:49PM on 04/12/09
when it's hot out, i love frozen ones. so good with a soda.
dearrie at 9:04PM on 04/12/09
I love them striaght out of the freezer! Sooooo Goooood!
I agree with flags for the 4th of July. How about pumpkins for Halloween? Turkeys at Thanksgiving? Flowers for Spring? There is too long of a stretch between Easter & Christmas!
And I wish I could take advantage of them discounted after the holiday. I've learned if you don't snatch your batch up at least 2 weeks before said holiday, you will be S.O.L. They FLY out of our small town Wally World.
Erinay77 at 3:31AM on 04/13/09
I am allergic to brown chocolates, so am glad I can find the white chocolate version of this. I have always loved the peanut butter filling much more than the outside, so I only buy Reese's cups at Easter and if the Giant ones are around (sadly, they seem to have been short-lived). I miss the Reese's eggs, which I used to get in big bags and squirrel away (pun intended) eating slowly until some time in the summer. Pure filling, with a candy shell, and no icky chocolate to mess up the taste.
Now that Easter is over, time to stock up where you can find them!
morgancain at 10:30AM on 04/13/09
I see this post the day after Easter and a friend was at CVS yesterday as they dismantled everything Easter.
I reiterate - I have never had one. I do not lie. I want one. NOW! Off to Walgreen's and will continue my quest until one (or dozens) is located. I will join the Sisterhood, only under distress if I fail in my mission. Nirvana, I'm on my way!
PerkyMac at 11:15AM on 04/13/09
Never had one either! Maybe after Passover because they do sound amazing...

Chew on That at 1:22PM on 04/13/09
Pmac...I think your screwed. 3 Walgreens and a Walmart today. Nary a one to be had.
ChelleyD01 at 3:03PM on 04/13/09
@perky~yep your screwed. stopped at wagreens after work and zilch. not even a big cup. @~chelly i think a lot of people heard you and ran to the store.
dearrie at 5:03PM on 04/13/09
well dearrie, Im sure you can only imagine how I feel about that. However, I can only post my true feelings on the other side. See ya there!
ChelleyD01 at 6:45PM on 04/13/09
Crap and dagummit!
Ok, I'll go wash my mouth out with soap now.
PerkyMac at 8:48PM on 04/13/09
totally a staple!!! the egg shape has the BEST pb and chocolate ratio.
cakeyntender at 11:14PM on 04/13/09
i cant figure out why i love them so much... maybe its that there is more peanut butter in them but when i see those little yellow packages i get so excited!! i'm glad that i buy them all throughout the season because my MIL went to the store and the whole shelf was wiped out. they also have trees and jack o'lanterns for christmas and halloween. maybe they will make something for this summer.
