Postum Emergency

Hi there. I need you help. For the last few months Postum has been absent from supermarket shelves here in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada). This has caused my Mum great distress as she has been drinking Postum 2-3 x per day for the last 50+ years. She is down to a few cupfuls left only, after collecting the last of my sister's Postum from Toronto and my aunt's from California.

Is there any Postum left anywhere? Have you seen it in your area? Any ideas for alternatives? My elderly Mum is really not going to cope well with this change....

It seems that Kraft is no longer making Postum. But I did find this - http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/browse/Home/Food-Candy/Food/Beverages/Pero/D/30100/P/1:100:1020:10270:100640/I/f12185?searchid=7KG1SRCH&feedid=froogle - which might help.

And there is this - http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1630,149185-250198,00.html

And here's a rather comprehensive discussion of the problem your poor Mum has just encountered - http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/485125

Good luck on this. It's no fun when necessary things disappear ......

There are bound to be stock piles of it here and there. Make some calls and get her a stock pile.

if you can't find it, Inka is a good substitute.

There's a similar drink by Nestle called Caro. I've seen it in Montreal Asian and Latino shops. I'm sure you could find it in Ottawa.

There is a chance any left over stock may appear at 99 cent stores or 'odd lot' stores. Not sure if those kinds of stores exist in your area but those are some good places to check when an item is discontinued. Best of luck in stockpiling some Postum or at least finding a suitable substitute!

That's too bad that Postrum is not around anymore, I had fond memories of going to my friends grandmothers house and she would always serve us Postrum when I was a kid.
