I think I killed my hot cross buns!

I goofed again! I'm really having a bad week. In putting together the dough tonight for my hot cross buns, I picked up the pot (quite proud of myself) to move it to another counter, only to see behind it the two packets of yeast that I completely forgot to put in. I quickly uncovered the pot and mixed in the yeast with my hands to get it as incorporated as possible, but I just don't know. Is the dough hopeless, or will it be okay? Is there anything else I should do?

When you raise the dough, it will be clear whether or not your last minute addition worked. Good luck!

i think you may have "crucified" your buns, but who know's they may
rise from the dead!

good luck... let us know.

You have to bloom the yeast. Start over.

I have per-cooked a bread dough by accident before. My bread dough was rising in the oven, but I forgot that there was a dough inside and pre-heated the oven.
By the time I realized it the dough was too warm for the yeast, so I let it cool a bit and knead in more dry yeast, did the second rise and baked it. I was surprised when the bread came out fine.

Nowadays most yeast packages don't really require proofing. It is to make sure if your yeast is alive or not; of course proofing makes yeast happier, but not absolutely necessary for most applications.
