Great Eats in Seattle?
I am visiting Seattle for the first time Memorial Day weekend. Any tips for can't miss places for breakfast, lunch and dinner? I LOVE seafood but my traveling companion doesn't eat it at all so ALL seafood restaurants are sadly out. Thank you!

I asked the same question last year and SE folks were super-generous with ideas. One place we went to and LOVED was Quinn's Pub on E. Pike in Capitol Hill (Seattle). Delicious gastropub with best-ever list of Belgian beer. Also must rec. the Athenian diner in the Pike Place Market. I know it's touristy but if you can sit by the window, it's magical...

Brouwers Cafe has great food and an exquisite beer list. Salumi is run by Mario Batali's dad and makes sublime meat. If you can get a little out the city, Diamond Knot brewpub in Mukilteo, near Everett, has a fun set-up. They bring a 750 degree slab of granite and you slice up your food into bite size pieces and cook it to your liking. They give you various sauces and you get to experiment and share to your hearts content. They make great beer too! Enjoy your trip!

Steelhead Diner by Pike's Place Market is one of my favorites.

You MUST get salmon. The best salmon I had in my life was from a trip to Seattle. Find a restaurant that serves non-seafood in addition to seafood and drag your travel buddy there, or slip out when he's not paying attention and get yourself some salmon.

matt's in the market.
then go have amazing cocktails down below the market at the zig zag cafe.
also loved sitka and spruce.

Quinn's is great. Paseo in Fremont does amazing cuban sandwiches. Hit up Skillet Street Food (different locations depending on the day).

My recommendation is Serious Pie! I always take out of towners there. I like the chantrelle and truffle cheese pizza.

Thanks! I have just the same question, with just the same problem (my father is deathly allergic to seafood) and will be there that same weekend for a wedding! :)
This is a great help, everyone!

I would strongly recommend Tilth in Wallingford (1411 N 45th St). Last year it made Frank Bruni's list of top 10 new American restaurants. We had some incredible dishes during our visit last summer. Try the mini duck burgers and, if they're on the menu, the fig-blue cheese-smoked almond micro-tarts.

If you are renting a car and it is sunny out I recommend this place on Seaside Drive called Paescosit is a stan but you get the most incredible Cuban/Caribbean food then drive a little further down the road to Golden Gardens park and have a picnic all while taking in the view. another place that is in that same area is Ray's Boathouse, there is a great view as well. There is two sections to eat at in this place, Ray's downstairs which is prtty expensive or Ray's Cafe (upstairs), the cafe has outdoor seating as well. Ray's has everything and fish is NOT the main attraction at this place. Auqa Verde is another fun place to go to but man there is always such I line. If you are in town long enough e mail me and lets get together for a drink or ten lol. I have already met a few SE's who visited Seattle and showed them around and had them over for drinks and apps cause they all want to see the houseboat I live on, your invited too.

Breakfast: The Dish, in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood (4358 Leary Way N.W.). It is small, always busy, and the decor is a bit dated, but the food and service are excellent. For lunch, Salumi in downtown Seattle is a hit (and owned by Mario Batalli's family). Leslie Kelly has a great review on her blog (http://tinyurl.com/dfh2yr). One of my favorite places for dinner is Serafina, an Italian-influenced restaurant in the Eastlake area of Seattle, near Lake Union (www.serafinaseattle.com). Their pumpkin gnocchi is one of my all-time favorites (but it might be restricted to their fall/winter menu). I took my Australian host parents there for dinner during their last visit, and they both raved about the food. Since they're the ultimate foodies, that was high praise (and Serafina often has fresh seafood offerings, so you and your friend will both be satisfied).

One more place I forgot to mention - Agua Verde Café has great Mexican food (and also offers kayak rentals!) (www.aguaverde.com/) They are located along the Ship Canal, near the Health Sciences complex at the U. of Washington. When I was in grad school at the UW, we would always take seminar speakers there for lunch.

Sunlight Cafe in the Roosevelt District has had the best vegetarian food for over 30 years and get there quick before Joe finally decides to retire. Their breakfast waffles are legend. I'm a prime carnevore and love their vegetarian - and in some cases vegan - fare.
One of our favorites is Mae's Phinney Ridge - their home smoked trout is a breakfast delight. High on the kitsch decorating factor and worth the wait weekend mornings.

If you get the chance to head south, you should check out Woody's on the Water. They are located next to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. They have a wonderful in-house hot smoked salmon and blueberry salad. As well as a full lunch and dinner menu that was created just for Gluten Free diners.
