Fried Chicken Emergency
I just went to put my annual fried chk order in with Charles for a party we throw every year.
Discovered what others may have already known -- that they're closed.
Ideal replacement would be a better-than-Charles hole in the wall in Bed Stuy. (We're in Brooklyn, and Charles was a [worthwhile] haul.)
Any concepts? We're talking 150-200 pieces, and would like to keep it in the $1-$1.5 per piece range. (All yuppie chk like Dirty Bird + pies/thighs [when it was open] was more like $2.5 per piece range.)
Many thanks for any info.

Piece of Chicken. It's not in Bed Stuy, but retail their chicken is $1 a piece, so I'm sure you'd get a deal for a big order. Don't know if it's better than Charles though (I'm guessing not.)

Charles is still making his chicken at Rack & Soul, 109th bet. Broadway and Amsterdam. Don't know if it will come out to less than $1.50 a piece, though.

Yeah, thx Ed. I discovered that subsequent to this post.
$2.5! ("broadway rents" he told me.)
Think I'm going to try Piece of Chicken. (thx Zach.) Sampled Mitchell's on Vanderbilt Ave in Brooklyn and wasn't overwhelmed. Hopefully PoC will be the answer.

P.s. Are the collard greens @ PoC acceptable? (I assume they're included in Ed's "B.")
I rate Charles' as being good but haven't had very many other renditions in NYC that pass muster.
I'm planning to order a large tray from PoC but let me know if you'd steer me away. (They're a nice-to-have but not have-to-have for party.)
Thx

It's funny... I walked by there today and all you can smell is collard greens! The thing about PoC is this... it's not blow you away good. But almost everything is good enough, and you won't find a cheaper option in Manhattan (I'm guessing)

Since I know everyone is dying to hear how it went I'll report back -- PoC big hit. Maybe not quite as good as Chas but more than adequate. Chas certainly isn't 2.5x better.
Greens forgettable. Will skip next time, but return to PoC unless / until a better option can be found closer to home.

Awesome... glad it worked out

I was also crushed to learn that Charles' was closed :(
But now I have even more reason to check out Rack and Soul!
Thanks for the tips, Ed and Zach.
