Cake decorating supply shops in NYC
I'm planning a fun weekend with my mum in New York in a couple of weeks, and I'd love to stock up on new supplies, specifically interesting fondant cutters etc. Any ideas?
If the place is off the beaten track a little please recommend other things to do nearby so my mum doesnt get too bored!
Thanks in advance!

You HAVE to go to New York Cake & Baking Supplies.
56 West 22nd Street (b/n Fifth and Sixth Avenues*)
New York NY 10010
212-675-2253
It will have almost anything you could want.
Warning: The people there are typical New York, small-shop-with-amazing-stock owners—gruff.

* If you haven't been here before, Sixth Avenue is also known as "Avenue of the Americas," a stupid name that nobody who lives here uses.

Oh, it's not off the beaten path at all. It's pretty central. And it's pretty close to the Shake Shack. Go have some custard or a shake and sit in the park!

as for other things to do nearby, there is a little shopping mall on 6th and 18th with a filene's, a tj maxx, a bed bath and beyond, and a container store across the street. there's also the city bakery on 18th and 5th, where she could sit and have a snack. also on 18th between 6th and 5th is books of wonder, a very nice children's bookstore.

I second NY cake and baking! I go out of my way to get there after work. Terrible staff, but great supplies.
I also enjoy wandering around broadway panhandler once in a while - not exclusively baking supplies, but a fun store - http://www.broadwaypanhandler.com/broadway/

NY Cake and Baking rules! JB Prince (36 E 31st St # 11) is another source for hard-to-find, super high end baking/cooking stuff. If you have the time and mum is up to it, stop by Kitchen Arts and Letters (1435 Lexington Ave) for cookbooks.
As for Filenes', TJ Max, Bed, Bath, Container Store...those are in every city, aren't they?

she referred to her mother as "mum" so i'm guessing that her mother is visiting from england and may not have filene's or tj maxx there...

we have TK Maxx in the UK but its the same store and company

Love JB Prince! Never been to NY Cake & Baking - but will make a point next time I'm in NYC.

Visited the NY Cake site - They no longer ship print catalogs so ignore the link to "request a catalog."

Thanks loads! I'm in san diego but 'mum' is coming from the UK. I'll look around this place and try not to spend too much!

NY Cake & Bake should have everything your heart desires, but beware of the staff (esp. the owner Joe)... and never ask if they have valrhona pistoles, they don't...ONLY BLOCK!

If you find yourself in Brooklyn and need cake decorating supplies head over to JoMart Chocolates @2917 Avenue R (near Marine Park). The bonus is while perusing the selection of supplies, you can see chocolates being made in the JoMart kitchen. Check them out at www.JoMartChocolates.com
