quite honestly,and dont hate me for this.... my favorite birthday cake is chocolate with cool whip on top.... im not a fan of icing... but this year my soon to be MIL made me a White Russian cake... with everything great about white russians including the vodka... yummy stuff!!

More buttercream

homemade black forest cake, pavlova, angel food cake, cream puff cake,
carrot cake, flourless chocolate torte. enough already. i pretty much like 'em if they're made well.

@Izatryt I stand corrected! I keep forgetting after x many years at 29 you start going backwards. ;-) btw my fav cake is Jerzee's coconut cake. I know she credited where it came from, but I dont care, to me and mine it will forever live as Jerzee Tomato coconut cake! ;-)

I still owe Perky a cheesecake from when the Eagles beat the Giants. However, I know some people in Perky's family have allergies, so I would say a flourless dark chocolate cake with homemade vanilla ice cream for her birthday.
And I'm afraid I must agree with JerzeeTomato--Cool Whip must die.

Awww Happy B-day Perky! Fav cake is probably either Epicurious' Chocolate Ganache cake....or my mom's Boston Cream Pie (hm, I think that might be from Better Homes...?)...or red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. Yeah, I pretty much just love cake. Wish it was my birthday today! Anyway, have a good one, Perky, and enjoy whatever cake it is that you end up eating!

Perkina!!! Happy Birthday :D. In another folder there was some interest in the Tiramisu Cheesecake I made my mom for her 76th Birthday. I think it would make a great BD cake for you.

That is a hard one cause I like almost all cakes. I would have to say a sacher torte is a big plus in my book. Red velvet is up thier too. Strawberry shortcake...oh that is a hard one to answer. Happy B-Day Perky.

Oh my gosh - I'm so honored, humbled and SO late to my own birthday party. Thank you all. I was sick on my Good Friday birthday, but celebrated on Easter. Iz was right. I'm tired of being 29 and decided that I'm 28 now. Huneybumper had a birthday the day before mine - I think she is now 24? She may not be counting backwards yet, so I could be wrong. :-) Happy belated BDay my dear friend - thanks for the post!
My friend made me a gluten free lemon poppyseed cake in a tube pan (she and her mother are celiacs). Directions said to invert on a bottle for 2 hours, then cool on a rack. We tried to invert it over a wine bottle and it was so high and unstable. Then we stuck it (upside down is inverting, right?) on a beer bottle and it was not balanced - very precarious. As we sat watching it and wondering whether that's what the author intended, the entire middle of the cake plopped on the plate, with the beer bottle in the middle. The entire edge was still stuck to the pan. She cut that out, placed it around the cake as best she could. It was hilarious. We ate some crumbs and they were delicious, so we were determined to save the mess. After it cooled, she added a lemon glaze, sliced almonds and stuck a big ass candle in the beer bottle and lit it. It was the best and funniest cake I've ever had. She took a pic with her cell phone - have to upload it. The beer bottle and candle brought Shamdra's Kwanzaa cake to mind, but was even funnier. oh - i forgot to mention that the recipe for the ham came from Nigella, in a section called "Trashy". It was cooked with a whole bottle of Coke, then baked with a glaze. We thought a trashy ham was a perfect complement to a cake with a beer bottle centerpiece. The icing on the cake wasn't the lemon glaze, but the dinner candle. How low brow can you go? Too funny.
