Anyone know about Saratoga Springs??

Hi Everyone,

Next weekend (April 24th...) I'm going to Saratoga Springs, NY for a long weekend. Where can I eat/go? I love holes, dives, fun bars, but probably some nice places as a "meeting of the families" dinner will take place...Suggestions??

Here's a thread about a fun hole-in-the wall:

I'm not familiar with the more chi-chi places, but don't miss Hattie's for fried chicken.

You also might want to check this Caital District food/ restaurant blog- just do a search on "saratoga.": http://blogs.timesunion.com/tablehopping/

Chez Sophie is very good, a nice French bistro. The Adelphi Hotel is lovely.

I love Saratoga Springs! You should go to Cantina for Mexican food, Uncommon Grounds for coffee and breakfast. The Wheatfields is good for nice Italian that might be a good family meeting place, otherwise Chez Sophie is very good but quite expensive, my family from NYC balked at the prices there which is impressive. Desperate Annie's is an awesome dive bar, that you should definitely go to. Have a good time!

Thanks so much for your suggestions! It is appreciated!

Longfellows (exit 14/Union Ave., go east) has great food and would be good for a family get together. The Ripe Tomato (exit 13) is excellent Italian. I've never been to Chez Pierre but a friend raves about it. I love Saratoga, I go up every summer for the racing.

Oh the Ripe Tomato is actually really good too, it is simple, upstate new york red sauce Italian but it is great.

The Main part of town is great you can find some great places there but dont forget about the Springs, I had a great massage at a place at the State Park if I had more time I would have soaked in the "natural" spring water. It's a nice town. Have Fun!!

For a lovely bit of nostalgia, drop into the Tin'n'Lint Company bar on Caroline Street. There is some brilliant graffiti in the restrooms, and there's a plaque commemorating it as the place where Don McLean wrote "American Pie." A real old hippie joint, filled with really nice folks. This would be the "dive" you're looking for, I believe.

There are a couple of very nice restaurants in the grand old Gideon Putnam Hotel - really great food, limited menus, but excellent stuff. And the hotel, of course, is a real treat. This would be the "family" place.

Have a great time in a very special old town.......................

We always enjoy the Wishing Well!

I've heard great things about Mrs London's bakery. I read an article about it in a pastry mag and it looks tasty

Thanks again for all your comments; they help a lot!
