Won a book and never got it-others?

I was just curious, has anyone else won one of the SE book giveaways and never actually received the book?

Yes, it takes awhile. You WILL get it. It does not come from SE but from the publisher. It took about a month. BTW I am very happy with my wings cookbook. Has given me some awsome ideas for chicken (not just wings). Yeah, I don't understand how it can take a month to send something out in the mail, but what the hell, IT'S FREE and it's for me!!!
Thank you SE!!!

missmicker: I'll look into the book situation on Monday, when everyone involved is back in the office. I see you won the New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook. I'll see if I can scare that up. I'll also go through the rolls and get things moving on any others that need it. I'm terribly sorry for the delay. It does take some time, but this one is more than a little behind.

Adam doesn't reply to my emails much anymore, but I do get my books by Christmas. ;-)

I won one once and it did take awhile to receive it but Adam was good with the emails and I finally got it and it was worth it.

He's a pretty busy guy but a good one!

I should have won some books, dammit! I have some issues with whomever is judging some of these things...Not all of them are random drawings, right?

@LPC: Sorry about the lax email. I'm rereading Getting Things Done in an attempt to get a handle on my inbox and faster replies. @Hunnyoil: Thanks for the kind words. It does end up taking me a while to get the gears turning. I know I have to put turbocharger on that.

Adam is a busy guy. Plus a young fella with a vibrant young woman in his life. He is trying his best to get everything done. I think he needs another intern. Isn't it intern time at SE again? Someone who loves to go to the post office I think.

I won the Baking Unplugged book a few weeks ago and I received mine. It took a few weeks as Adam said it would but I got it so hang in there!!

@sailordave - I think most of them are judged by the replies which I think is kindof unfair. To make it fair for everyone, it should be completely random. Not everyone has "an awesome story" to tell or the time to type out long responses.

yeah, that happened to me too. however, the mailing address i gave them was my workplace, where i no longer am employed, so perhaps it did eventually come? i don't mind though...i know adam's super busy & i can always just check it out of the library. the thrill of winning was enough for me-lol. :)

Over a two year period, I won twice and both books arrived with little delay. Adam even contacted me to confirm my mailing address without me even considering there may be a problem. I'd find it hard to question the integrity or effort put into the task on the part of SE staff and leadership. Both of my winners were random drawings...

I won and received the books. It did take a while but once I ascertained that the books were not sent and lost, I chilled about it.

@gastronomeg: I just sent you an email about your book, but the email address we have in the SE system looks like it might be your workplace? If you didn't get my email, email me back at adam@seriouseats.com. Let's get this straightened out.

@caramel: Actually, it's just the opposite. All the "Cook the Book" contests are chosen at random. We get so many responses to those that we just couldn't go through them all. For short-run contests (those with 2 to 3 day durations), we often do haikus/poems/stories—which are judged by quality of content. There was a thread a while back about contest methodology, and I think what I was hearing from a majority of serious eaters was that they preferred the haikus/poems, etc. I prefer them, too, because they're more fun to read, and there are really some amazingly talented and witty people submitting things. Moreover, it helps keep out the drive-by people who find our contests on contest-alert sites.

@Jerzee: Thanks for the kind words. I don't know if I could be described as a "young fella," though. And, yes, summer is coming, and we'll have some new interns for you all to torture in the comments!

@chiffonade: If I recall, you won one of the special unannounced prizes—the Keller book set. Maybe the delay had something to do with Ed having to pry it from my hands. ;) Hope you're having fun with that.

@caramel, I think most of the book giveaways are still random. There was some discussion about having more contests that require thought, because it would tend to give an edge to people who read and post here as opposed to the people who stop by once a week and post a stupid answer to a question just to see if they can win.

@gastronomeg: As I suspected, my email to you bounced back. Email me, and we'll get you hooked up.

@Adam - Thanks for clearing that up for me, I'll start entering again. :)
