Where to buy smoked ham shanks?
I used to buy smoked ham shanks for cooking beans, greens, jambalaya, etc., but my local grocery stores no longer carry them. In fact, the butcher told me they're just not available anymore. Can this be true?

I see them everywhere in the northeast, midlantic states and south.

Burger's Smokehouse carries them. High-quality stuff, too.

I'm in Southwest Florida, Marco Island to be exact. Plenty of smoked hocks available, but no shanks.

I'm a butcher in central Florida....and we have smoked ham shanks all the time....maybe your butcher gets the hogs that are raised without shanks on them....lol

There are two Publix supermarkets and one Winn Dixie here, and I got the same story from all three. They say that they're just not available. Maybe I'd better head up your way and stock up!

I got my ham shanks form Burgers, but they're not smoked! I used one last night with some collard greens, and they were good, but I really wanted smoked shanks. The ones I got are "country" ham shanks, which means heavily salted, not smoked.

Yes, they're brined, but I promise you they were smoked. I use Burgers all the time. Country hams are cured and smoked, and smoked longer than Burger's "city hams". I've been in their smokehouse.
