What's your favorite kitchen gadget?

My favorite kitchen gadget is a bean slicer. http://www.collectorville.com/kitchen/utensil_photo/bean_slicer.JPG
it cuts the runner beans in the length, and take a lot less time to cut all the bean.
i have been looking for one for in my own kitchen for 2 years, and hope to find one on my next trip to the states.

what are other peoples fav kitchen gadgets??

My Oxo Good Grips garlic chopper. I use it nearly everyday, it seems to be indestructible, makes fast work of chopping garlic, and is dishwasher safe.

Kitchenaid Stand Mixer w/pasta maker attachment

I really like my microplane. But damn, that thing is sharp!

I have to agree with Knitter, except mine's a KitchenAid. I use it for garlic, nuts, anchovies, hard cheese, breadcrumbs - I could go on :-)

I love my reamer.

We have a 5lb sausage stuffer which will do all 5 lbs. in minutes. A huge time savings over the KitchenAid attachment. We purchased at an industrial machine company and was on $60.

Digital probe thermometer for oven and grill with loud alarm.

My vegetable peeler with thick rubber grip, vertical. Saves my arthritic hands from pain. Also have a Y shaped oxo and rarely use it.

I love my zlyiss pizza cutter. It makes fabulous cuts for homemade noodles too. :3

Oh, and my hand squeezer for limes. Also zlyiss.

love my microplane zester... cheese, nutmeg, zesting citrus fruits....it's magic.

It's worth spending a few extra dollars for one with a handle...they can dig into your hands if you are doing, for instance, hard parmesan.

pksmash, how do you make your sausage? I've just started experimenting, and am looking for good recipes, if you don't mind sharing. You can email me at karen_ourth@yahoo.com to keep this thread on subject. Thanks. Would like to hear more about your stuffer, also.

Hard to choose, but probably my WS whisk, or my probe thermometer, it sounds like the one Perky has. Has saved many a burnt offerings when I get involved in something else, and forget the time.

It's a tossup -- Microplane, Oxo peeler, or Mexican citrus juicer.

It would either be my non-stick omelette pan, I call it that because that is pretty much all I use it for, or my spatula.

My kitchen scissors. I use them exclusively for cutting fresh herbs and lettuces for salads.

The mini food processor attachment for my stick blender gets a workout. It's great for a small amounts of bread crumbs, chopped nuts, pesto, salsa and sofritos without dragging my big equipment out. I use my citrus juicer quite a bit, too.

Microplane, scissors and I think it's called a Chinese skimmer - the mesh basket with a handle you'd use when frying in a wok. I have a more western version that I use all the time to lift things - eggs, artichokes, pasta - in and out of water.

My food processor with all the attatchements.

I think my Good Grips mandoline is one of my favorite gadgets to use, next to my beautiful KitchenAid.

Kitchen Aid mixer and microplane ----------- hands down

Good Grips mandoline fan here also. And gotta love my microplanes and my Kitchen Aid mixer a.k.a Daisy, my kitchen workhorse.

Presto 10"-20" flat griddle and my Danish dough whisk.

i live on the bayous of south louisiana and i like my fillet knife, chefs knife and a well honed hatchet. know i live a different life than most of you but frankly, i've never heard of a few of the things you've listed.

@olddad--what things have you never heard of listed here? Also, what kind of lifestyle do you lead? My dad would certainly appreciate your love for a well honed hatchet. North Country woods guy.

I have a purple one and a half foot tall lemon squeezer! My sister bought it for me, and I love it. You set the lemon on the "mound" on top of the metal jar that comes with the squeezer, you push the long, metal arm- handle down, reminicent of the old-fashioned ones used when pumping water from a well at the turn of the century. It's a great conversation piece, and fun to do and watch; not to mention squeezing every last bit of juice from the lemon!

I love gadgets! My favorite low tech gadget is probably my cheese plane. I like buying good cheese and this makes perfect thin slices for sandwiches, snacking, cooking etc. I use it al the time. I love cheese.

Count me in for the microplanes. Before I finally bought one a couple years I go I thought to myself how great can these things be? Wow! What a pleasant suprise. I am amazed how often I use it. I also have a mini food processor that just has a single chopping attachment but I'll tell you that thing is a god-send.

@olddad, I'd love to hear what you use your hatchet for, in the kitchen. Are you hacking up gators down there?

olddad has the hatchet ready incase any of you dog and people eaters ever visit him.

I love my cherry/olive pitter. I don't use it very often but it's just so nifty.

Under $20: Aerolatte battery-powered milk frother. Transforms an ordinary coffee or espresso into a barista-quality latte or cappucino in 20 seconds. Also emulsifies oil and vinegar for salad dressings, and makes small batches of real whipped cream in a cup instantly.
Over $200: My original Cuisinart DLC-7 food processor is over 25 years old, and is still going strong. I have 9 different slicing disks and blades, plus the citrus juicing attachment. I use everything, and it does what it does beautifully.

microplane. i say this as a lemon square addict.

Microplane and food processor. It makes the best piecrust in half the time it takes to make it by hand and it always turns out better.

my expandable tongs and a very old knife. not really a tool, but the animals grabbing everything that hits the floor. the more they eat the less i sweep.

My garlic press, I'm surprised I haven't worn it out yet.
