What happened to Chez Laurence?

I mean the wonderful french patisserie-lunch place on Madison Ave. around 35th st. I've eaten pain au chocolate and iced coffee from there since before the 21st century. Haven't been in the nabe for a few years and now I notice the awnings and signage are still up but the place is dark. Any info, Ed? You touted me onto "Larry's Place" over 20 years ago!

Annie and Larry (Laurence) sold the business a few years ago. It became a characterless generic place and now it sounds like it is closed for good.

I'd been a patron for at least 30 years, and I miss the brioche, croissants, cookies and more. Much to my regret, Chez Laurence been AWOL for months. I'm not sure it was sold - a few weeks before it closed, I saw Annie behind the counter, and Larry's mom seated me in the restaurant. I was with a friend who was also a long time patron, and we remarked that they didn't have as big a bakery selection, and the cute French chatchkes they always had for sale were fewer in number.

I guess that young guy from Great Neck and his French wife must have reached retirement age--and so time passes when you're doing other things. Sigh. I'll miss that place! Thanks for the info.
