Sugar free Jelly or Jams (Diabetic) Recommendations?

I haven't found a decent, good tasting jelly or jam that is sugar free for the diabetic diet.

Most I've tried have little taste, or odd textures that aren't appetizing.

So far Polaner's Sugar Free is about all that's OK.

Generally speaking I prefer something with Splenda as a sweetener as opposed to aspartame like Sweet and Low.

The All Fruit products still have a high sugar content.

Any recommendations?

I usually use the Polaner in small amounts. Although when strawberries are in I'll be making my own again, I use real sugar, just a ton less than most recipes call for, which is better anyway because you get more fruit taste. Good Luck.

The Smucker's low-sugar is my favorite, but I'm not sure it'll be low enough sugar for you. Worth checking - it has roughly (maybe fewer than) half the calories of regular jam, so I assume it would be roughly half the sugar, too. Think they use Splenda. Strawberry is my favorite :-)

You could make your own without added sugar or with Splenda, but it's still going to be relatively high in sugar because the reduced fruit is high in sugar.

I'm always a fan of Smucker's, of course they are about 20 min. away from me, so I may be partial. But when I went through a my-body-can't- take-sugar phase, I was pleased with the variety and taste of Smucker's Sugar Free.

I had a gastric bypass 2 years ago so I can't have sugar either; I dislike the texture of the Smucker's...too jello-ish. But the Polaner sugar free is excellent; my favorite is the seedless blackberry.

Are you only looking for commercial jams and jellies or are you open to making your own? You can easily make a fruit spread by adding no sugar at all and just some pectin to fruits and cook them down. They do not hold as long without canning as of course the sugar is a preservative, but it can be canned or frozen or just made in small batches. Fruit can be sweetened with 100% fruit juices also to make jam.

I cannot remember the brand, and it is just local to me I think, but we have a company that makes fruit and juice spreads. The juice is used in place of the sugar. Of course there is still sugar from the fruit, but less than if any was added. Maybe look for a juice-sweetened jam or jelly and see about the content for you?

I agree with dragonflyknits, I've tried several and the only thing I really like is Polaner seedless blackberry preserves, which contains Splenda. A couple years ago I went on a serious diet, and I made PB&J's on whole wheat with this stuff and they were delicious.

Ditto on the Smuckers sugar free.

Thanks everbody for the quick response.

Looks like a taste test between Polaner's and Smuckers Sugar-Free will be on the agenda.

I might try a small batch of homemade using some fruit juice and pectin, although for all the work and clean up, I'm thinking that just buy the All-Fruit flavor of choice.

I choose Smucker's Sugar-Free (seedless blackberry)....With a name like that it has to be good! Honest!
