Spinach: Way or No Way?

I love spinach, raw, sauteed, creamed, and any other way you can prepare it. I hate it as a child, even when Daddy told me about Popeye...that didn't fly. As popular as it is now, I am ever so surprised at the number of "foodies" that SECRETLY don't like it, but hate to admit it. What about you, WAY or NO WAY?

WAY. Any and all forms. Way, way, way

I absolutely adore spinach. I always use fresh baby spinach, sautee it in a bit of olive olive, garlic, red pepper flakes and a pinch of nutmeg. Sometimes I'll add green onions and a bit of feta for greek spinach. I mixed in some artichoke hearts this week as well. I have limited my pasta intake, and find spinach a wonderful substitute. I use it as a base for baked fish, shrimp scampi, etc. I think people give it a bad rap, and should reinvest it for themselves.....my husband is not a fan, but will tolerate it.

Way - adult spinach only, though. Baby spinach doesn't do it for me.

WAY! looooove spinach!

A big YES for me - it is always available which I love. I sautee it with a bit of butter, salt and right before eating, sprinkle a little white vinegar - nirvana!

A little oil on the pan and garlic. Add the freshly washed spin and let it simmer down. Since the spin is wet it'll steam up and cook nicely. Simple, with big taste. Love it. Serve with a side of white rice.

WAY! It's been my favourite vegging all my life!

WAY...sauteed with olive oil and garlic, stuffing for chicken or veal, combined with feta for a great omlette, even in tomato sauce over pasta. Plus it gives you musckles (vague Popeye reference).

Definitely WAY. I use fresh as a base for salad, frozen in lasagnas/pasta dishes, as a healthy addition to dips, sauteed on it's own in olive oil & garlic, creamed, and just about any other way I can get it in. A couple years ago for Christmas, I made this spinach & butternut squash gratin that was crazy good. It was a dark time a few years ago when it was banned for E-coli (or salmonella or whatever it was, I can't even remember anymore...).

WAY! Can't eat much of it raw (doesn't sit well) but I love it cooked with lots of garlic as a side or in stuff, like lasagna or scrambled eggs.

i was the same way... spinach is an acquired taste since I've been a grown up. And now its WAY!!!!!

Without a doubt, WAY! Love it. Any and all forms.

I like spinach for its healthy green leafiness now, mainly in salads, but growing up, my mom liked to serve huge pieces of cooked spinach in soup. That's not really a good way for a kid to get to know spinach.

I love spinach and eat 3-4 servings every day, but I cannot stand it raw. The feeling it leaves on my tongue is quite unpleasant.

No way for me, anymore...which is weird because it's always been a favorite of mine. But now I'm finding the strang feeling it leaves on my teeth is a turn-off. HOWEVER, I love making it for the family as a side dish as they all adore it, even my kids, and it's so easy and quick to prepare for them (they like it sauteed in garlic and oil with hot pepper flakes and parm cheese sprinkled on top). I always have it on hand because it's so chock full of vitamins and good for their little bodies. I'm glad they love it.

WAY in every form

WAY to fresh or (good) creamed spinach. WAY to spinach that's sauteed the way I like it. But sad little wilty half-cooked greens? NO WAY. (But that goes for every other green, as well).

It isn't a good day, unless it has spinach in it!! I have spinach probably 360 days a year in one form or another!

Definitely way. Defrosted some frozen chopped spinach last night with toasted pine nuts, garlic, olive oil, and crushed red pepper. Can't wait to eat the leftovers for lunch.

But what is with that awful dry feeling it leaves on my teeth? I feel like I'd eat it even more if I didn't have to put up with that.

My experience and sentiments exactly! Weird. WAY!

Even as a child I loved spinach, whether canned, frozen, or fresh.

My two favorites are wilted spinach salad with the old-fashioned sweet and sour bacon dressing, and creamed spinach at any steak house - manna from heaven!

WAY.
In all ways and forms except canned.
Yum spinach!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to experience that weird feeling in my mouth - at least with raw spinach.

WAY - baby for raw, any for cooked. I especially like to cook and blend it into Indian-style curries before adding the other veggies or meat if I'm using it. Raw blended into smoothies (or pretty much any dark leafy) adds a lot of nutrients but doesn't impart a strong flavor over the fruit so it blends in nicely. I don't eat it cooked on it's own much, but I do love it in so many other things.

Way! Raw or cooked.

But not a big fan of frozen (although okay in some things) and not a fan of canned. Sorry, Popeye!

I love spinach. It's all about preparing it correctly. Garlic makes it taste better.

I think I'm actually related to Popeye because spinach is probably my favorite vegetable. I LOVE it steamed or right out of the frozen chopped package. I like it fresh as a salad. The only time I don't like to eat spinach is when it's creamed, but hey - that's not the spinach's fault, it's the cream's.

Chew on That

Oh Yea - I can deal with it. Best recipe I have is a spinach fritata.

that weird feel on your teeth is caused by oxalic acid.

You can reduce oxalic acid by blanching raw spinach.

And personally, Way.

Way! Yum Yum Yum
And the hubby and kids concur.

WAY! All different ways, all the time! Spinach always adds something to any meal I make whether Indian or Italian. I'll add it as a spur-of-the-moment extra --- but it always turns out delicious (to me anyways). I understand, though, why some are tired of it. However--- I must add that frozen spinach is a ridiculously good deal at the grocery store.

I know this may sound gross but I even love th stuff from from the can.

WAY

@Cass--I too hate that raw-spinach feeling on one's teeth. I love the stuff in any other form, except creamed. Spinach omelettes, spinach quiche, eggs florentine, spinach pesto, just plain stir-fried spinach with olive oil and lemon, spinach enchiladas, spinach in lasagna.... Goodness, I sound like Bubba talking about shrimp. I'll stop now.

I've always loved spinach. Mum often made spinach soup when we were little (not cream of spinach), and we ate plenty of spinach salads and stir-fries with spinach. I use it so often, and in so many things - soups, quiches, omelettes, croquettes, salads... I doubt I've ever tasted creamed spinach though, and for some reason, I'm not sure I want to. Regardless -- big YAY for me.

no way. Spinach makes my teeth hurt. I used that reason as a kid and still do today. Except for me my teeth hurt when it is cooked. As anadult I can eat some raw in a salad mixed with other greens or even cooked in something like spinach artichoke dip. But plain cooked spinach, no way!

I used to eat a lot of spinach, but after I found out about the oxalic acid (which inhibits your body's ability to absorb calcium), I started relying on other greens, like kale and collards. Now when I do eat cooked spinach, it seems too soft to me.

Way! It has always been my favorite veggie and I can eat it in any form, and it's partly due to my fascination with Popeye like so many others. Spinach and eggs are magical together.

WAY. Occasionally in high school, I would skip whatever dinner I'd made for my sister's rugrats and just have a huge bowl of cooked spinach with a little salt and some lemon juice.

Way. Anytime, anywhere, anyway you wanna serve it. Its my second favorite veggie (zucchini is #1).

,Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee, or spinach.

Way! It's one of my BF's favorites, and it's just so tasty!

Way! Hated ut as a kid...love it now in all its incarnations (especially creamed).
