How Long does it take Your Household to Finish a Loaf of Bread?
I think my family ( of five) eats bread way too much, one loaf can't last us more than three days.

Three days for 5 people? That sounds very conservative to me.

More than a month, unless it's homemade.

Half an hour. Less if my roommates are around and decide to help me. I love bread.

I'm in the more than a month club - no matter if it's store bought or homemade. I just don't care for bread much....the freezer is my friend in keeping the bread budget sensible.

we're not big bread eaters. my oh will go through a couple of rolls here and there. trying not to keep it around too much. bread alone, now that's another story, they make great bread, their peasant bread is so good. a little too tempting to have in the house.... i find myself making grilled cheeses on that at midnight. not a good habit to get into.
and if i have company, i usually get a few of their baguettes.... very good, also.

Hard to say... none of us are Finnish.
Seriously, though, the three of us will wipe out a homemade loaf in less than a week. Three days for a family of five sounds pretty darn good.

Store bought sandwich bread, 1 -2 weeks for the two of us. Homemade bread of just about any kind about a day...if that.

I love bread, a little too much probably. I second the statement that your formula is conservative, by my standards! I've recently started baking my own. It helps me appreciate it and savor it more, and is also more cost effective.

If everyone in the family has a sandwich for lunch, that's about half a loaf gone right away. A loaf in three days sure doesn't sound excessive to me.

Depends 1/2 hour to 4 days.

That's pretty good - my inlaws live in a house with a total of eight adults in it and they go through 1.5 to 2 loaves a day.

Is the breakdown 2 adults and 3 kids? As in, teenagers? We (4 boys and DH) typically went through 1 loaf every two days, with lunches and in-betweens. And a husband who HAS to have a slice of bread with EVERY meal.
And when we did French toast, well, forget it. We went through a loaf for that alone.
And like everyone else above, when it was homemade bread it fell into the almost-dessert category. As in, "see bread, smell bread, eat bread".

homemade bread never lasts more than 24 hours around here. storebought stuff? it's gone in a week.
did i mention there are only two of us living here?

More than a month, regardless of make, and then we throw it away when we finally notice the mold.

Our family of four usually goes through a large loaf in about 3 days. My husband eats cheesy toast for snacks all of the time...plus we make sandwiches for lunches. If it's a baguette, it's gone in one sitting.

When I lived with my boyfriend, the two of us polished off a loaf of homemade bread in 3 to 4 days and store-bought in a week. I don't your bread consumption rate is excessive, especially if you like toast for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch.

I'm Finnish, so does that mean I have to give my answer in terms of Finnish bread or regular bread?
meem21 at 12:44PM on 03/09/09
I buy a loaf of bread every other day. I have 2 kids eating a piece of toast with breakfast and a sandwich for lunch every day.
louclakat at 7:23PM on 03/13/09
We don't do loaves we do baguettes ... it takes about 2 minutes, literally, I am not kidding!!! If I want a bite, I have to have it before bringing it into the house or hide it!
ChezUS at 9:11PM on 03/13/09
I can eat a whole loaf of bread by myself in less than a day, homemade or not.
While currently my metabolism can keep up I worry a little for the future.
jazzinx at 9:36PM on 03/13/09
Store bought, a couple of weeks. Home made or fresh from the oven slathered with butter (and maybe honey)...pretty much inhaled completely in one fell swoop (minutes from oven to tummy).
