Fat Duck temporarily closed due to diner illness
I just read about this on reuters that 40 people had food poisoning after dining at the Fat Duck restaurant. After it was announced in the media there were 400 cases of food poisoning linked to the Fat Duck.

I wonder how this will affect molecular gastronomy proponents. I remember vaguely about reading some protest to Ferran Adria's work and how it's potentially unsafe.

I'll be more interested when the official microbiology report is released. Until then it's just speculation and arm waving.

"The Health Protection Agency said the number had risen to 400 after media coverage of its investigation."
Well that's telling. Now its magically 400 - my guess everyone and their dog are blaming something on the restaurant now. Its all speculation. Including reports of possible sabotage (which wouldn't surprise me). Lets wait until the report comes out.
And molecular gastronomy than any other type of food preparation.

Yup. It could have nothing to do with the cooking methods. Could have been a bad batch of anything that came through the restaurant.
And the fact that the number rose from 40 to 400 after the news was released makes me think of those bus accidents where there are 4 people riding the bus, but 40 show up at the emergency room with whiplash.

It is very easy when you are making food to accidently make someone ill. It is even easier when your screwing around with additives and chemical cocktails to poison someone albeit not on purpose. There is a fine line between chemistry and cuisine over at Blumenthal's place.
This is actually a good thing. It is about time that this thing gets to be front and center. For me personally I call bullshit on it. It is a trend and one I see not going to hold up long term. I don't care how many stars they were given, how cool it looks or how many top chef's were into it. This too shall pass.
