champagne question
Asked a friend coming through duty free to pick us up a bottle of Veuve Clicquot since it's so expensive here. What he brought back was $35 more that we were expecting, and is called Veuve Clicquot Cuvee Edouard Werle. From reading The Widow Clicquot (an excellent book!) I know that ol' Eddie was the widow's business partner and successor, but what does that mean for my bottle of champagne?

It means you're drinking a whole lot fancier than I am, these days. Pass the seltzer.

What does the label look like?

I searched for this bottle but couldn't find anything. Does it have a vintage or is it a non-vintage? Either way, it's a likely a special bottling, probably has a different assemblage than the standard VC, maybe from better grapes, maybe aged longer, released in smaller amounts, etc. You probably already knew all that though.

next time put a price limit on what you want to spend..... i.e. hey, i usually pay $45. a bottle, if you can get it for a lot less, please pick one up for me.
hope you enjoy it, i'm sure you will.....

@ Silvia, it's the standard yellow, but with silver accents and the signature and anchor are darker and more pronounced. The neck foil is also silver, and from memory (VC never lasts very long around here) I think it's usually gold?
@ Simon, no vintage that I can see
If it's something special, I don't mind paying a little more for it :-)

I'm going to ask a friend who eps it. It may be a wine we don't see here in the states. Weird though that it's not on the internet anywhere.
All I have found out so far is that Werle was a beloved employee, and I think they own the company now,

Just heard back from hubby - he thinks it was purchased at Duty-Free in the Atlanta airport - the mystery deepens! Maybe we will just have to think up an excuse to drink it and see if it was worth the extra $$ :D

I'm guessing that if they named it after Werlé, they would honor him with a special product. I just wish I knew in what way it was special!

The only bottle of VC I've found with silver foil around the neck is the "demi-sec" but it doesn't sound like that's what you've got either... The mystery deepens.
Paging Deb Harkness!!! Maybe she can find out what it is you have?
