There's lots of great Googling if you haven't tried that yet. Here's one of my favorites (clicking on the recipe index will get you to the alphabetical search) http://www.food-india.com/

This site has very good authentic Indian recipes, but only vegetarian recipes:

I recommend Raghavan Iyer's Betty Crocker's Indian Home Cooking and 660 Curries. (I'm crazy about these books). He offers authentic recipes but also offers solutions and substitutions for our American kitchens.
I'm Indian-American and this taught me better than my own mother. Seriously.

Also, a suggestion--if you want really authentic, get away from the dishes you listed! Those are like Indian restaurant staples but not really dishes you would find on an everyday Indian table. Indian restaurants are very North-Indian/Punjabi-centric and it is a huge country with lots of different and delicious foods!

Thanks for the comments so far. Googling is great, but you never know what you are going to get - unless of course there are reviews. "Inothernews" is right about authenticity - what dishes would you recommend. We love spicy and aromatic. Not so much for deep fried foods but LOVE comfort stuff. THANKS.

Madhur Jaffrey, is an accomplished Indian cook who has published Indian cookbooks, that I would certainly consider, "Authentic" - I have used her recipes for years and I can tell you they are delicious. You might even be able to borrow from the library if you didn't want to invest in the book.

I second Madhur Jaffrey!

I really liked the recipe for chana punjabi which was just published in the nytimes. It's a new comfort dish for me. Also, I am a fan of bbc chef anjum anand. I think she has a good balance of north and south indian recipes on the bbc website.
