Where to Eat: Berlin Edition!

Off to Berlin on Friday.

Tell me, Food Guides...

Where should I eat?
What street food should I not miss?
What beer should I drink?

...and, so on and so forth...

:)

Merci! (Or, Danke!)

Einstein Cafe (touristy but nice coffee and kuchen). There was a Thai place--Mao Thai I think--that was delish. I was working near the Natural History Museum and remember that the lunches (the only meal I had time for most days) at the cafes in the area were quite good. You might also look for a currywurst joint; it's an acquired taste much beloved by many of my German friends.

Berlin is one of my favorite cities! You will love it! If you can, take the Art Tour at the Reichstag...it'll prep you for noticing how strong Berlin's "culture of remembering" is throughout the city.

Street food: You must get a currywurst (hotdog covered in ketchup mixed w/curry powder). Also, wander into any doner kebab place you can find and order the pita w/the most toppings. (They fill them with meat, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, and 3 or 4 very tasty sauces.) My favorite doner kebab place shares a corner with a grocery store on Wilhelmstrasse, about 5 blocks from the Brandenburg Gate and 2 blocks from the Holocaust Memorial. (In the Mitte neighborhood)

Funky Ethnic Cuisine: Head to Kreutzberg (pronounced "Kroitzburg"). It's one of the Turkish neighborhoods, and it's a great place to roam. There you'll find alot of great restaurants...I had some of the best shwarma ever at a little sidewalk cafe there.

Beer: If the weather is remotely nice, you'll want to get a beer at the Strandbar Mitte, on the River Spree (pronounced "Schpree"). It's a beach bar, complete with cabanas and occasionally beach volleyball. Even the beach bars in the middle of the city, with no water in sight, are a fun place to hang out. Also, go to the Prater Biergarten...it's the oldest biergarten in Berlin and it's alot of fun. There are beer and food counters, and the food is all very good. You may want to try one of their draft beers w/flavoring and Sprite.

Misc: If there is a street fair in Berlin, you want to be at it. The food and drink is always amazing, and the people and vendors are fun to mingle with.

Hi Meg! OMG Berlin is one of my favourite cities too!

Where should I eat? I found a really cute place beneath another resturaunt that was located in an old wine cellar. Too bad I don't remember what it was called...but check out some of the "Füssball Einschafts" or Soccer Bars--you're bound to have a great time with those people.
What street food should I not miss? If you get a chance to visit the Hungerian area of Berlin..have some REAL goulash. Also; get a lamb gyro off the streets they're usually really really good. If you have a chance (and have the ballz) get a Pferde Wurst. It's a horse weiner that is 2 die for.
What beer should I drink? Warsteiner for sure. Its a light ale that you can drink all day and not feel bloated. If you get a chance to have beer with dinner I like a Doppelbock for its rich fullness...don't drink it all day though--hardly thirst-quenching. But keep in mind that German's serve their beer a bit warmer than North American culture. If you order one that seems a bit warm its because its supposed to be...and for sure will taste great!

Ich hoffe das du eine Schönes Flug habe! Viel Schpäss! :D
