What's up with Dunkin' Donuts' new sandwich?

Was picking dd up from Karate tonite and there's a Dunkin Donuts in the strip mall her school is in. The poster advertising their new sandwich revealed an egg, bacon, and cheese
between two waffles. What do you think? Appetizing or repulsive? Kind of reminded me of the post "Is Paula Dean Trying To Kill Us" with her over the top eggwich.

Skinny waffles? Like the ones you get at Waffle House or in an Eggo box? Because that's probably no more unhealthy than an egg, bacon, and cheese on a bagel sandwich (not that that sandwich is the epitome of health food). If you do it with Belgian waffles though...wow. I think I would need a fork to eat that. And it would probably be amazing. Other than the bacon. Judging by how people rave and rave about bacon, I must be one of the only people in the world not to like bacon.

Nope, waffles for me have butter, blueberry syrup, and mounds of whipped cream on top with a side of bacon. I will try Paula Deen's coronary "wich" with a glazed doughnut though.

I remember when Dunkin Donuts had.... oh what were they called....... lemme think here..... donuts? Oh yes and coffee. Now when I'm in the north and go there I have to wait a half hour because someone thinks they are owed a frozen fruit coolatta some kind of western turkey flatbread sandwich and god knows what all! They need to have an express line for people who just want coffee and maybe a donut that they don't even make on site anymore! They are trying to be all things to all people. Those sandwiches you are refering to.... they look like hammered dog crap!

Isn't this just like those 'McGriddles'?

Lots of people like eggs on waffles. No worse than a biscuit, really. I agree with @cycorider, if it was done by a real place, it wouldn't be that bad.

I got a blueberry muffin from them recently and it was inedible. It was so sweet it was oily. I find all of their stuff just way, way, way too sweet, including the coffee.

I vote for repulsive. I'd check out the nutrition stats before taking a bite.

I would totally eat that if I made it at home. I don't put syrup on waffles usually... or anything sweet for that matter. Usually I make them and them put some butter on them and call it a day. Same with pancakes.

Like meg3j, I'd make it at home (no cheese for me). I like Eggo frozen blueberry waffles out of the toaster with nothing on them, but bacon and egg sounds pretty good. I haven't been to a DD in probably 20 years. Nothing against their donuts - they were probably too good and I just didn't dare, although I remember getting stale donuts a couple of times. I think they were serving soup and other things even back then.

@PerkyMac, I don't remember their donuts being anything special. I might not be the best authority though...donuts in general don't do much for me and I tend to avoid them. Bagels, however, are far too tasty to avoid. And the problem with them is they TRICK you into thinking they're healthy, even though they have more sugar and more calories than donuts! No cream cheese for me though. Peanut butter, maybe strawberry jelly, or just plain. And I don't even care what kind of bagel it is...just give me bagels and I'll be happy!

@ heartofglass re too sweet: I couldn't understand why their latte came with sugar or splenda already added, so I ordered it without - ULTRAbitter :( Even their yummy hot bagel w/ crm chs isn't worth that PRICY swill. Maybe it's all too sweet because it's just not good.

@cycorider: Finally! A kindred spririt! I have never, really and honestly, ever liked bacon. I don't get it as a food. I am not sure if it is a flavor or texture thing, but somehow bacon has never appealed to me. Strangely, though, I love turkey bacon...I think because it's generally really tough and chewy, and reminds me of jerky, which I also really enjoy.

And for me, I actually like my waffles just plain. No syrup or butter or jam or anything. Eggs and cheese on a biscuit, though, and now we're talking!

Yeah, wha tis going on with Dunkin Donuts lately? They were all quite there and now they have all these TV ads, their coffee in major stores, and making al these sandwichs?

Similar to Perky and meg3j, I'd eat something like that if I made it at home, only I wouldn't make it into a sandwich - eggs and bacon on a waffle (one), no cheese necessary (but a few drops of ketchup on top would be appreciated). In fact, I do make eggs & bacon on a waffle (or a pancake) some Sundays. But I wouldn't want it as a sandwich, it would take away a huge chunk of my pleasure of eating it leisurely with knife and fork on a lazy Sunday.

And I haven't been to DD in a long time either, not that I ever was a regular. But many, many, many years ago I used to fancy a Bavarian cream doughnut on occasion.

@Traveller, between no bacon and plain waffles, we need to do breakfast! I would try the eggs on a waffle because it sounds pretty tasty, but I hate the idea of syrup, butter, whipped cream, or that sugary fruit pie filling stuff on my waffles. I love jerky, though I have to admit I've never had turkey bacon. I can sort of do bacon if it's undercooked (still don't enjoy it, but I can get it down at least), but if it's crispy, no way, no how. I think it's that I can taste all the grease. Yuck.

Speaking of breakfast, for anyone who didn't eat yet (or wants to eat again) and doesn't mind chain diner food, Dennys is giving out a free pancake, eggs, bacon, and sausage meal today (2/3) from 6am-2pm.

@Pavlov--you made me laugh out loud! Way for the coffee only line too
@cycorider--the picture looked like an eggo, but nothing I've ever gotten there looks anything like the picture once it's removed rom it's grease laden bag. I do really enjoy their coffee though.

@brooke29--ditto, I haven't had them in years, but when I was a student in New England, those Bavarian Creams got me through many a long study session. Loved 'em, even the really disgustingly oversize eclair-size ones. However, then I found a bakery that made Bavarian Cream doughnuts fresh, and after I moved away from said bakery the DD have always seemed like a pale imitation.

Good for them! About time someone attempted to step up to McDonalds' genius McGriddles....I'll be more than happy to give DDs new breakfast sangwich a shot.

OK, if Roscoe's can serve chicken and waffles, what's the big deal about eggs and waffles? Throw in some bacon and sausage and its almost like a Denny's Grand Slam that six million people gobbled down for free after the Super Bowl. What I believe waffles belong with, other than syrup and butter is the version from Belgium with ice cream. And, wait a minute, don't most Dunkin Dounuts have an affiliated Baskin Robins within? Is someone missing the obvious here at at DD? Memo: Fire all the marketing guys (especially the ones that came up with those horribly bland flat bread sandwiches)...I'm available for consulting!

It's designed to compete against McDonald's McGriddle, but IMO McDonald's wins in the taste category. The McGriddle has more heft, and the quality of the egg and cheese on the McGriddle are superior. The maple infused pancake from Mickey D's has a better texture than DD's waffle. DD wins in the bacon category, which was the best part of the sandwich.

At the DD store that I went to, even though they had the sandwich on the board for 3 days and the manager had pointed it out to me the previous Saturday, the team didn't know that it was on the menu. They didn't know how to prepare it, or where the waffles were. Major fail. Also, the counter person told me outright, "Dunkin Donuts can't beat McDonalds. The McGriddles are the best!" Yikes.

@perky- you provide the blueberry waffle and I will bring the bacon, whipped cream, and champagne/strawberries.
