What's the strangest thing you have had/crave for breakfast?
I'm having leftover chicken and broccoli fettucine alfredo with a glass of o.j. (combating the effects of all the tequilla I drank last night) It just got me thinking about all the things I will eat in the morning to avoid having cereal. Just wondering if I'm the only one who has grilled a burger at 9:00 a.m.?

My favorite breakfast is fried catfish w/ eggs, grits, & toast.

my normal breakfast is hummus and crackers, I like eggs well enough just not in the am. For a while I was craving alfalfa, not the sprouts but the blocks of alfalfa you give guinea pigs and the like as treats. Not pregnant! I ate two blocks every morning for about a week and then stopped.
huneybumper at 9:27AM on 02/07/09
huneybumper, alfalfa blocks? Were they just straight compressed alfalfa or the kind that have other treat stuff mixed in them? I think I would rather eat the guinea pig.

A cold cheeseburger from Dick's Drive In or leftover pizza cold.
pjracz10 at 10:37AM on 02/07/09
When I was little I used to want a hot dog with mayo for breakfast. Now, I crave sushi.
meg3j at 10:47AM on 02/07/09
Wel...as I'm currently eating breakfast now...It's consisting of a bowl of Tom Yum soup and a tortilla with hummus.
On school mornings I eat cereal or granola and yoghurt....

This morning I had pasta w/broccoflower, garlic, feta, olive oil, cayenne pepper and lots of salt and black pepper. I pretty much eat what I feel like, when I feel like. To me, the perfect weekday breakfast is soup or a salad. Though sometimes a cheeseburger is nice. Or umebushi rice balls. I love cereal, which I sometimes eat in the morning, but not all that often. I once went for two straight weeks eating nothing but Nong Shim Kimchi Ramen for breakfast. The only reason I stopped is that I started developing a serious case of the kankles. That stuff'll kill you if you eat too much of it.

When I was in high school I would preferentially eat the leftovers of whatever my mom made for dinner the night before. My fave was spaghetti and meat sauce. This morning I had one bite of my husband's muffin, and some chips and hummus.
mrsfoodissues at 12:23PM on 02/07/09
about to go eat some leftover veggie chili and a piece of cheese bread... perhaps with a cookies and cream cupcake for dessert. but this only gets to happen on the weekend. during the school week its grapes or an apple with some toast or a granola bar. your typical breakfast-on-the-go foods.
vanillapudding99 at 1:02PM on 02/07/09
I am more likely to eat breakfast foods for other meals of the day than vice versa. I love granola/yogurt, toast, and eggs...a LOT.

Leftover tossed salad with crackers or sunny side eggs with leftover rice.
finsbigfan at 2:52PM on 02/07/09
I'll eat whatever for breakfast. Dinner leftovers work fine for me. If I listed every strange thing I've eaten for breakfast, this post would go on forever.
cycorider at 2:59PM on 02/07/09
I love grilled cheese on rye
WSLunch at 4:01PM on 02/07/09
My daughter had scrambled eggs with thyme and a side of fresh pear this morning. No toast or hashbrowns or any breakfast carbs. I had potatoes gratin from last night.
I used to pack bento boxes, after making dinner, for the next day's lunch. Soon I started packing a breakfast bento as well, so I could sleep a little later in the morning. I used the same aesthetic and nutritional principles for both meals, which is how I started eating coleslaw and other vegetables for breakfast. I was in better health, then, too. Hmmm...
Some breakfast bento pics:

I love breakfast food. We have it alot for dinner because of the time crunch in the am. One of my favs to heat up in the morning is speghetti with meat sauce and extra parm, and a big glass of milk.
MissMelissa at 6:16PM on 02/07/09
I love most all breakfast food but sometimes all I want is apple pie for breakfast.
pielady at 7:00PM on 02/07/09
Who decreed that breakfast meant cereal, toast, juice and milk?
I will eat whatever. Sometimes it is cereal, toast, juice and milk, other times it can be leftover steak and veg or pasta or pizza. Just whatever sounds good.
My son is the same. We had pizza for supper last night - so this morning he grabbed a slice or two of pizza for breakfast.

Leftover cold Thai food with a blueberry Pop Tart chaser is my go to morning after cure. I've actually done the Nong Shim Kimchi Ramen on a number of occasions just like @Chisai. What are the odds of that? (No kankles though..lol).
kathyvegas at 7:33PM on 02/07/09
curry. mmmm
i love starting my day with spicy food
machellebelle at 7:49PM on 02/07/09
Most of the time, I eat dinner-type foods for breakfast, e.g., chili with rice, beef stew with rice, beef curry rice, Mama brand noodles in tom yum w/ a ton of sriracha (super cheap, super spicy, super yum), ramen, leftover kimchi jjigae (when I am not due for an early morning meeting), ...
Once in a great while, I'll eat cereal for breakfast. I don't like sausage, bacon, toast, and breakfasty eggs, so...
Cassaendra at 8:14PM on 02/07/09
@pielady....you read my mind. There is nothing I would rather have for breakfast than a slice of pie- preferably cherry or blueberry. I heat it in the microwave for a few seconds and wash it down with a big glass of milk. Perfection!
labcab at 8:39PM on 02/07/09
I can't ever enjoy hot or cold cereals. Toast is only for dessert with cinnamon sugar.
My favorite breakfast is spaghetti meat sauce. Delish! You get some veggies (tomato sauce), meat, and lots of carbs. Good way to start the day! ;-)

I thought of another one I love for breakfast. Leftover chicken lo mein fron my favorite chinese place. It has to be cold right from the fridge. It takes on this great texture when it is cold, and becomes a different dish. It is wonderful for breakfast this way.
I am glad to see so many responses in the positive for having whatever one feels like for breakfast. It seems most of the people around me have either more tradional breakfast things than do I , the same thing for breakfast almost every day, or no breakfast at all. (I suppose whatever meal they eventually have is literally break fast)
Perhaps they are just not as passionate about food as I have become. Or maybe I'm just not much of a conformist.
Regardless, I will never again let the hour dictate my meal.

pjracz10 is right, cold left over pizza rocks! It is great with a hot cup of coffee on the way to work!

ICE CREAM

the perfect spring/summer (ok, and sometimes fall/winter) breakfast. :) ice cream, pjs, and a sunny day outside...what could be better?
Pammeh at 7:15PM on 02/08/09
@-kathyvegas- Oh no you just triggered a new craving, I have to go to market tomorrow and buy some blueberry poptarts now lol.

warm bookers bourbon, hot black coffee and cold fried chicken.
olddad at 9:42PM on 02/09/09
I used to buy this garlic chile chicken from a Chinese restaurant called Kip's, in El Cajon. Most of the food there was eh, but this one dish, deep fried chicken (similar to chicken karage) then topped with about 1/4 cup of fried garlic bits, green onions, and red chile bits, was one of my favorite foods ever. I used to order two orders to go, one for our dinner, and one for my breakfast and lunch the next day. I liked it better for breakfast than I did at dinner. I miss that chicken.
dawnie2u at 11:37AM on 02/10/09
Cold pizza and a latte from Starbucks. Don't judge me :)
