What would your last meal be?
In keeping of the spirit of tonight's Top Chef episode, what would your last meal be?
For me? My gram's fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, and banana pudding.
How about you?

An assortment of cheeses and really good crusty bread. Perhaps some sun-ripened figs, for good measure.
PumpkinBear at 11:47PM on 02/11/09
Bowl of Italian Wedding soup, basket of either fresh from the oven garlic bread or Italian bread with marinara sauce for dipping, and big plate of frutti di mare. Alternately, homemade pierogies sauteed in butter and onion would work too.
cycorider at 12:22AM on 02/12/09
Fugu fish? I mean, there's not a lot of risk, right? Might as well get rip-roaring drunk, too, since there's no "morning after" hangover.
dbcurrie at 12:24AM on 02/12/09
Dick's Drive Inn. A couple cheese burgers, fries and a side of tartar to dip the fries in. Then on to the booze........
pjracz10 at 12:39AM on 02/12/09
My mom's cheeseburgers, green beans, and a sliced tomato (the veg from my garden, preferably).
sobriquet at 12:40AM on 02/12/09

thepirateking at 12:56AM on 02/12/09
I was talking about it with my OH while we were watching. I know that I'd want an extraordinary sushi dinner, preferably prepared by chef Masayoshi Takayama.
brooke29 at 1:25AM on 02/12/09
Mmm...crusty bread with assorted cheeses...
And I'd have to say lobster with a ton of butter....omg
mandoopandoo at 5:13AM on 02/12/09
@chisai-- When I read yours, all I could think of was "The South is gonna rise again!" Hahaha... Man, that's exactly the kind of food that I've missed the most while living in the Franceland. I just had a conversation with my brother about fried chicken, and with a fellow Southerner here in Besançon about biscuits and gravy. And, banana pudding-- be still my heart!
meg3j at 6:12AM on 02/12/09
@db ~ How funny!! Do you watch Nip/Tuck?
For me, it would be Foie, Caviar, Lobster and Champagne. It is my LAST meal, right? I might have to add something a little heartier.
izatryt at 6:46AM on 02/12/09
a bottle of wine a loaf of crusty sourdough and fresh mussells grilled over the fire on the beach. That qualifies as the most memorable as well as the last I would want.
huneybumper at 8:14AM on 02/12/09
Seafood, and lots of it, from Elliot's on pier 69 in Seattle (I have an attachment to the place). The meal would consist of a little of everything I like on the menu, washed down with a decent glass of water, and a bottle of Taittinger. For desert, (since there would be no more room for solid food!) a glass of warm Drambuie, and then on to whisky and cigarettes.
whatseatingme at 9:03AM on 02/12/09
This is a question I answered when I first registered with SE and I think I'll stay with my original sentiment. Seafood! Some steamers with melted butter and crusty bread for an appetizer, Fisherman's Platter with a variety of fried "shellfish" and some fresh grilled halibut, salmon and sole for the main course and it wouldn't hurt to throw on some fried onion rings and mushrooms to heap the platter. A dish of tapioca pudding with claret sauce for dessert. Probably a Chardonnay on the side of each course. If I've exceeded the budget, just get me some fish and chips and a good draft beer.
czken at 9:28AM on 02/12/09
@pjracz10, if you're going to Dick's the burger has to be a delux and trade in the tartar sauce for a vanilla shake. Gotta dip Dick's fries in a shake! That'll be $4.73...
@whatseatingme, I was right there at the table with you until you whipped out the cigarettes. Is that even legal in Seattle now? I have my doubts...
czken at 9:33AM on 02/12/09
a luscious plate of incredibly fresh, shrimp sauteed with olive oil, butter, garlic, lemon, lots of fresh parsley -- a piece of really crusty bread to sop up the juices.... a perfectly chilled glass of pinot grigio (not too cold)
a salad of escarole, red onion, with pieces of blood orange, pistachios,
in a citrus, olive oil dressing made with anchovy & fresh garlic...
a rich, dark, dark chocolate something, with a fresh lemon sorbet chaser.
all of this is preceded by a really cold very dirty martini made with either grey goose, stoli or ketel.... and some surprise appetizer provided by mario batali....
pooch at 9:36AM on 02/12/09
A bottle of Chimay White with my steamers, a fresh, local IPA with a couple slices of pizza, Ommegang Three Philosophers with a rare NY strip and baked potato, and Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence with a thick slice of fresh Marionberry pie with a big scoop of good vanilla ice cream.
beersnob at 9:56AM on 02/12/09
@beersnob-Thanks for that suggestion,I have a couple bottles of Three Philosophers in the fridge, so dinner tonight will include them with a rare ribeye and a baked potato.
dmcavanagh at 10:14AM on 02/12/09
I hope it's not my last meal.
dmcavanagh at 10:15AM on 02/12/09
Wow this is a tough question, but if I had to decide, I think I'd go with barbecued ribs, mac & cheese, and biscuits - assuming they are all made from scratch, with high-quality ingredients, and by someone who knows what they're doing. Dessert would be some sort of dark chocolate & peanut butter concoction...perhaps a torte, or souffle, or mousse, or flourless cake, etc. Second choice would be Mexican food - fresh chips hot from the fryer, homemade salsa & guac, enchiladas (chicken, steak, and refried bean), and as many margaritas as I could drink. And then maybe a tres leches cake with Mexican fudge sauce for dessert.
kimberlymac at 10:27AM on 02/12/09
whatever it is I can tell you for a fact there wouldn't be a single vegetable in it! Probably several Filet Mignons and lobster tails with a side of steamers and boatloads of butter..... then 4-5 pints of ben and jerrys oatmeal cookie chunk.... and to wash it down?! Those of you who know me.... need not ask.....
Pavlov at 10:27AM on 02/12/09
bacon wrapped scallop starter, spinach salad with warm bacon dressing, Filet Oscar, parmasean garlic mashed potatoes, bottle of Veuve Cliquot, and something chocolate for dessert.
cowprintrabbit at 11:02AM on 02/12/09
I'd have to say a huge serving of jambalaya or chicken e'touffee, prepared by my college friend's dad. And a good beer to accompany such a great meal!
jmfors at 11:06AM on 02/12/09
First, I thought saimin soup. Definitely saimin.
Then I thought sushi. Truckloads of it.
Or fried seafood. Or a med rare porterhouse with baked potato and salad.
This is an impossible question for me to answer today. Perhaps I'll revisit it tomorrow.
Kerosena at 11:09AM on 02/12/09
I'd have a big bucket of steamers with drawn butter, followed by mussels au gratin, all washed down with several Tanqueray & Tonics with extra limes. Then I'd have a couple of big Maine Lobsters, again with butter. Then, some crusty Italian bread, and some fried zucchini with marinara sauce to dip.
For dessert, some hand packed Mocha Chip ice cream from Brigham's, with their hot fudge loaded on top. A big mug of coffee, spiked with Bailey's or Amaretto or Sambuca...
Yeah. That would be just about right. I'd definitely go out with a big smile on my face, that's for sure.
juliebugsmama at 11:23AM on 02/12/09
Before eating I would go on a 2 hour run so I would be very hungry.
To start: Champagne and caviar with latkes and creme fraiche and also some gougeres. Pita and taramasalata would also be on the table along with guacamole and chips flavored with lime.
Fresh steamers dipped in butter and broth.
Then, my mom's creamy clam sauce pasta made with fresh fettucini.
Then some cod grilled on a plank for smokiness - served on a bed of creamy polenta.
A gorgeously grilled steak with brussel sprouts and bacon, garlic bread, and mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top.
A crisp arugula salad with pomegranate seeds and sliced green apple.
A selection of amazing cheeses from all over the world with equally amazing breads.
Dessert would be petit fours, macarons, then a dense cheesecake, a pot of my mom's vanilla rice pudding, and a slice of her lemon cake. And chocolates and brandy to finish. Wine throughout the meal of course.
laurelie at 11:28AM on 02/12/09
i would want something very comforting --
perfectly cooked scrambled eggs maybe with a few chives snipped in, crisp bacon and lots of it (why not since it is my last meal,) a few roasted garden tomatoes, crusty white bread toasted and buttered.
lakeloverhh at 11:58AM on 02/12/09

FrostyGhost at 1:29PM on 02/12/09
My tummy would hurt from all the dishes I would want at my last meal.
Chips and salsa
a fantastic cobb salad with extra avocado
french onion soup (make sure the cheese is almost burnt!)
an amazing steak, cooked very rare
crusty bread w/ butter
coleslaw
a fruit salad with peaches, strawberries, blackberries and raspberries
my moms chocolate chips cookies with ice cold organic mix!
My last meal would be an all day affair! With enough time I could also enjoy Phad Thai, cheese cake, and home made cranberry sauce.
mhurst826 at 2:41PM on 02/12/09
Eggs Benedict on top of a dry aged Rib Eye between two Bacon Cheeseburgers.
bessfour at 2:52PM on 02/12/09
Mine would be a sort of "surf and turf" with a side by side presentation of salmon nigiri and filet mignon. Damn, that sounds good.
P.S. We asked a whole bunch of food bloggers this very question over a year ago and you can see their answers here.
Chew on That at 4:21PM on 02/12/09
My mom's cheese stuffed shells and garlic bread with a whole lot of her marinara sauce on the side. For dessert, coconut cream pie and a ginormous vanilla soft serve cone. Plus coffee.
ilovepancakes at 5:38PM on 02/12/09
@shiso--hahaha! That would be the app to my last meal! I have to stop my self from buying that stuff!
sailordave at 5:59PM on 02/12/09
Hopefully my last meal would last 5 hours and be in slo-mo..
BBQ baby back ribs, potatoes, in any way, shape, or form, and fresh grilled corn on the cob..washed down with icy cold beer.
Then after a couple of Bloody Mary's: beef tenderloin, steamed lobster tails and King crab legs with 2 pounds of melted butter and sourdough bread, slathered with garlic butter and broiled.
For dessert, chocolate cream pie in pastry crust with real whipped heavy cream.
lamora at 3:00AM on 02/13/09
