Leeks: Way or No Way?

My turn to post one of these! :)

Way or no way: Leeks. I just saw an episode of Good Eats where Alton explores the leeks and comes up with some tasty sounding ways to eat leeks (leek rings, mmm!)

But what about you - do leeks sound appealing, or do you despise their allium roots?

I like leeks personally. They're not as strong as onions for when you need something more subtle.

I love leeks --in soups to add a delicate flavour with depth. I also carmelized a bunch to accompany the occasional bbq'd new york steak --delicious!

Way to leeks. No way to the 10 gallons of water it takes to wash them.

Way to the leeks like Potato Leek soup.....

Way.
I like them, though I admit I almost never buy them unless I am planning a very specific recipe.

I love them, but like sadiepix, I rarely buy them. I think part of it is that they sell by the pound and I hate paying for the inches of green I'm just going to throw out.

WAY!!! I love leeks, in soup as rings however they can be fixed! I've got a bowl of carmalized leeks and garlic in the fridge right now, hmmm maybe a new version of french onion soup? lol

NO. I hate leeks, since they're just as evil as onions and garlic.

Way! In a white wine cream sauce with mushrooms over vol-au-vent...Sigh...

WAY! In leek, potato and bacon soup, caramelised leek tart, courgette & leek pancakes...

Way! One of my favorite ways to make leeks is slowly sweated with heavy cream which I learned in one of the first classes I took at school. Love leek soup as well but not cold. They're a pain to clean but so worth it.

LOL @Hilary; I've been tempted to post a way/noway post as a tribute to Perky!

Way again! I'm on the Potato-leek soup ship 4 sho!
I also love them just slowly sauteed (or sweated like chiff says), to top off my light meats. I've had a leek and pork-meatball combo once at a friends place for dinner. I think it had a bacon-pork base; it was pretty good (coulda used some pepper tho)

I should try this bbq technique...interesting.

@cass ~ LOL! Didn't even need to see who posted that comment.

WAY!

L-O-O-O-O-VE LEEKS. Pia to clean.

Way...just had braised chicken with leeks and garlic for dinner last night. YUM!

WAY! Just an incredible flavor when properly prepared!

Way; I love anything with oniony flavor

Way. I had an exchange student from Wales and her Mum sent me a Welsh cookbook with leeks as an ingredient in nearly every recipe. I kept her up-to-date about her daughter and she always said, "Oh lovey, you're such a lovely love, love." How endearing and sweet, eh? I hadn't cooked with leeks before that. Easy to clean in a bowl of cold water. Just remove top and borrom, chop, drop in, swish around, then scoop out, leaving grit in the water - bottom of the bowl. Can be used in place of onions.

WAY. DEFINITELY. I've been on a huge leek kick recently, and am absolutely nuts about them. First came pureed creamy leek and potato soup, then leek and gruyere quiche, then a leek and stilton omelette, then homemade leek, ricotta, and stilton ravioli (tossed with browned butter and toasted walnuts). YUM!

OK, I'ma gonna mess wit' choo all---WAAAY to leeks! But by "leeks," I mean ramps/wild onion--the skinny little things you pick from north-facing ravines just as spring is breaking and which they used to send you home from school on a Monday following a weekend of noshing raw and boiled with ham 'cause they are so darned strong. Leek-leeks are ok, too, but LEEKS, now I LOVE those suckers!

absolute way. any way I can get them is good. I make this soup with barley, lentils, and split peas and it just works so much better with leeks than with onions.

Way..At the moment, I am up to my eyeballs in leeks. I am making potato leek soup for dinner...

WAY WAY WAY. Potato leek soup, not pureed, topped with crumbled bacon and a few drops of truffle oil may be the most truly amazing soup ever made. Especially if you use a chicken stock base and saute the leeks in a tiny bit of the bacon fat, and mush everything up with a potato masher rather than an immersion blender, so you have those wilted, caramelized leeks, and if you use heavy cream...

I need to shut up, now, I'm drooling.

the only thing i thought of was shakespeare's henry V.... they have a leek festival in Wales. anyways, i love them in potato soup!
