RIP Joe Ades, Union Square Peeler Peddler

The man whose sales pitch for Swiss-made peelers brightened every Greenmarket shopper's day, died I was saddened to read the news on Gothamist this morning, but I'll always remember his spirit, showmanship, and obvious pleasure in his work.

For more, check out his NY Times profile. What's your favorite memory of Joe?

That's so sad. He seemed like the kind of man who would live forever and ever. I just saw him last weekend...

Very sad. Someone who made New York New York.

Very sad. His star shaped carrots and little quips with the audience will be missed.

my favorite memory is the first time i saw him hawking books, and cheerfully admitting that they were stolen.

i have one of his peelers but have never used it.
