Recipe Request: Ham Hocks
Does anyone have any good recipes using ham hocks? I've made black bean soup using ham hocks but was wondering if I could find some real unique or really good recipes to add to my repertoire.

You can make Caldo Gallego, a Spanish soup made from ham hock stock, white beans, collard greens and potatoes. Deliciously simple.
Also...
ham stock (for soups, pastas, poaching liquid, etc.)
throw it in a pot with dried beans

I can't stress enough how much I love them prepared this way!
My papa makes a very traditional recipe to DIE for; where you slowly braise the following and serve it over steamed potatoes--I swear its golden:
- Seasoned and seared pork hawk
- Canned green beans
- Canned or very ripened pears
- Lots of soft and squishy slow-cooked onions
P.s. Where I'm from they call them Pork Hawks....try saying that 5x fast! LOL~!

I will never go back to making split pea soup with regular ham; hocks are the way to go!
Make a simple stock of simmered hocks, garlic, and hot sauce. Cook until meat is falling apart tender. Remove hocks and remove and trim/dice meat. Add to simmering water washed collard greens and ham meat. This is one of my favorite go-to low money meals. Delicious.

drop a couple of ham hocks in any bean dish and use chicken broth instead of water.
