OMG. Chris guy on 'Chopped'
There needs to be some kind of rule when it comes to "Double-Dipping". My husband and I were just blowen away by Chris Burke and his continued double dipping. Chris Burke you should be Chopped" from all of the Food Network programs

That is vile. I hate when people double dip,but someone on FN?
pjracz10 at 3:05PM on 02/01/09
I think they should have "chopped" him first! Instead they let him continue to participate......FN keeps disappointing me....
Rhiannon at 3:23PM on 02/01/09
Not only did he double dip...he pulled some funny business when he "lost" his mushrooms in the first round.
I can't believe, no matter how talented a chef they thought he might be, that he was not eliminated after that first round. I'm certain the powers that be at FNTV thought his drama made for better viewing than the other poor slobs who followed the rules. But, isn't that what Top Chef is all about, too?
bessfour at 3:40PM on 02/01/09
Ok soooooo...... double dipping is bad........ right?! *note to self........*
Pavlov at 4:04PM on 02/01/09
I guess what I meant to say was HOLY F*#$ ! someone is still actually watching FN?! Wow.... screw FN and all their horrid programs. If it wasn't for AB I would have erased the channel from my TV.
Pavlov at 4:07PM on 02/01/09
He'll have his own program.....fn is good about trying to shove things down your throught....
Markbb at 4:44PM on 02/01/09
I am, in no way, grossed out by double dipping. Based on all of your comments, I guess there's something wrong with me.
PumpkinBear at 5:51PM on 02/01/09
That's terrible. It's just as bad as an "established" cooking show host not cleaning up their work area after cutting chicken or not even washing their hands (on camera) after working with meat or poultry. If you put someone on TV to demo a cooking show, they have a responsibility to encourage kitchen sanitation. And in the case of these cooking "reality" game shows, it should be held against the contestant.
@PB - Not dissin' you - it's been proven that double dipping is harmful. I might not blink if an immediate family member did it but I wouldn't like to see it done at a party where I don't know half the people. Professor Dawson (who ran the study) said “The way I would put it is, before you have some dip at a party, look around and ask yourself, would I be willing to kiss everyone here? Because you don’t know who might be double dipping, and those who do are sharing their saliva with you.”
therealchiffonade at 9:17PM on 02/01/09
mmmmmmmmmmm........... saliva! If you had a bowl of it, I'd double dip in that! I understand the importance of good kitchen sanitation, but germaphobes crack me up... these are the same folks who end up dying in a hotel room in Vegas with 6 inch fingernails!

Hi everybody; guess what? That kid, Chef Chris Burke is about to be a big star. He is extremely offensive and thats what makes ratings soar. Poeple will take a Hate or Love approach to him and tune in just to see how he will offend next. In 4-6 months he will have his own show and DONNA_DEE and her husband will be sprawled out on their filthy couch tuning in to see what they can find "wrong" with what he did, or more shockingly, what he said! There is No such thing as BAD publicity and people are feeding right into the palm of his hand! Not to mention, you can't even argue the fact that he is talented. One judge said, "he shows flashes of brilliance"
MattyB at 12:08PM on 02/02/09
@mattyB -- a little rough don't you think.
lakeloverhh at 12:27PM on 02/02/09
MattyB = Chris Burke? ya never know...........Actually... sometime you do know.
I'd say he's gonna blow up to be a big flash in the pan... not that I'll ever see it. But these so called "personalities" on FN... here today gone tomorrow.
Pavlov at 12:45PM on 02/02/09
I do not think Chris deserved to be chopped first. The two girls did not make dishes that were appetizing looking and even the judges said they lacked taste. As to the theatrics, if there were none, the show would be boring and I would not be so naive as to think that the show producers do not pick one of those chefs to "act up" or spice things up. Truthfully Chris's dishes looked professional, and if not for the grilled cantaloupe he could have won. I would also not be surprised to find out that more chefs double dip than we would like to know about.
foodtvfan at 8:27PM on 02/02/09
Let me say that Chris added panache and excitement to an otherwise dull episode. The other contestants food looked boring and unappetizing as compared to Chris's imiagative dishes. If I were in restaurant I surely would have ordered that crab cake. And who doesn't like bacon ummm...
As far a double dipping have you ever seen TOP CHEF the contestants are always asked "Did you taste the dish". I agree double dipping should not be done however this is a show not a real serving restaurant. If that were the case all NYS laws would apply which would mean hats and gloves and hair nets for all.... It is a show and Chris provided a great one.
GO CHEF CHRIS hope to see more of you...
shammyrock at 4:41PM on 02/03/09
Oh forgot one thing if you look at Chris's rating he is 65 percent approval just goes to show you the judges aren't always right.....
shammyrock at 4:45PM on 02/03/09
lets talk about being creativehere,? chris burke ,made "4" deserts and did it under the time limit!!! and was only judged on "1" desert and wasnt even given credit for that, plus chef burke was much better to watch even if he did run a round. he gave that show spark. that host ,tim allon, shoud be chopped.
shammyrock at 5:43PM on 02/03/09
Personally, I think Chris Burke was absolutely fantastic! The judges, well, mainly the woman, was ridiculous! She should be on Flavor of Love, instead of Chopped! Chris showed the most creativity out of any of the chefs, and had a better personality than all of them... Chris rocks!
Merski at 5:58PM on 02/03/09
This is coming from someone who has personally kissed Chris (back in college...CIA)... his saliva isn't that disgusting! Ha Ha, just had to get that in there.
Where's the balance in these cooking shows? It's either the chef's didn't try their creations, or they are overdoing it like Chris and his double dipping. Everyone has forgiven Bobby Flay for standing on his cutting board on the iron chef competition; I think Chris is due for a second chance.
Nevertheless, this guy was quirky, cute, and talented and I hope to see more of him on tv (since I never kept in touch w/ him anyway). His demeanor is totally meant for television.
genoubug at 4:35PM on 03/24/09
I have personally worked with Chris. He has got to be the most talented chef I have ever known...and my father's opinion and that is 25 years in the New York metropolitan area.
And he lives food. I learned quite a bit from him...one day I was cutting chives and he comes up to me and says "Hey what did you do hit this with a broomstick?!?" He is a real motivator and is constantly wanting to learn. I continue to keep in touch with him through a friend of his.
And honestly the only reason he lost was because they give the money to the family man...a kid like Chris has his whole life ahead of him and should become quite successful when he finds his place.
Currently I am a hospitality business major and will most likely work with the food industry. And from what I see in Chris, he will go far. Like stated by judges "he shows flashes of brilliance" and that is what people look for.
shudamar at 2:17AM on 04/29/09
Let's face it--Burke knows how to cook, he's intense, he's creative. On this particular show his competition happened to have been weak. I mean, really, two salads as appetizers in which the ingredients were pretty much plopped on the plate, almost no effort to combine them or use other ingredients, the major difference being the one who put the bran flakes on the bottom ("toasted!") got chopped?! Even the winner, who seemed like a nice guy and was sympathetic, barely avoided disaster. BUT--Chris was a flaming jerk, unlike any other contestant I've seen on the show (although there was one other fellow who offered to "help" another contestant after he finished first). Every time Chris opened his mouth he managed to offend. Bacon isn't for women? "Thanks for the tip" about double-dipping? "What are you going to do when you get chopped" to the man who was about to beat him? Let alone accusing the woman of stealing his shitakis and then having the chutzpah to ask her for some of hers, and then not apologizing until a judge pushed him to? You could see the judges were just waiting for a good enough reason to chop him for something other than his attitude, and I was hoping they'd find one. He got off easy with the comment about his having some "maturity" issues. If I'd been a judge I'd have helped his maturing process along, by telling him no matter how talented he might be as chef, he'd consistently acted like a [select your own term], and would never be allowed to win any contest I judged.
Cechitoff at 3:54AM on 05/11/09
I happen to personally know Christopher, and he is a wonderfully talented chef. His personality is wonderful and he is an entertainer. Again, I must state that if the directors, producers, judges, etc, did not want him to act that way they would have made it clear from the beginning. Shows like this are dying for talent and comic relief and funny moments. If they are not that way they become boring and tedious. Chris has cooked with some of the best chefs and is constantly improving his technique. Even the chef who won liked Chris. Cechitoff, I would never let you be a judge on my show if all you are concerned about is personality. Flair, attitude, humor all add to the show. Even if he did overdo, it was not unpleasant.
Oh, and by the way, if the show did not like him they would not have asked him back, and guess what? He is taping his SECOND chance CHOPPED tomorrow night to air in June. So I guess that they liked him just fine.
foodtvfan at 8:26PM on 05/14/09
hahaha didn't watch the episode, but am amused by the fact that there is a suddenly and suspiciously high number of people posting who "personally know" Chris. just sayin'.
teenagefoodie at 8:47PM on 05/14/09
Yes, teenage foodie, there are quite a few "personal friends" of Chris scattered around the internet, pimping him, as well as a number of people who've worked with Chris at restaurants before he discovered he was better suited for work in an environment in which his offensive personality would be less likely to get him fired and/or shunned by his fellow workers. Foodtv fan, nobody said "all I'm concerend about is personality," and nobody said Chris can't cook. Just the opposite. Chris certainly can cook. I enjoy humor and personality, and I didn't find Chris the least bit funny and didn't notice any of the judges finding him funny, either. Did the woman whom he wrongly accused of stealing his mushrooms find him funny, I wonder? Fine with me if they included Chris among the second round of also-rans--that's entertainment--but face it--the guy's got a serious attitude problem, and apparently is so obsessed with making it as a celebrity that he either writes his own hype while pretending to be his "friends," or calls up his friends and begs them to hype him. Pathetic.
Cechitoff at 4:05PM on 05/28/09
Ok, I think maybe you are going a little too far. You do not personally know this man, and you are in no position to judge where his career takes him. You have no personal knowledge of his co-workers or who likes him or not. You have no idea if his fellow workers shunned him, that is a ridiculous statement made by a pompous (select your own term). There are people with attitude all across this country and that is what makes us such a rich and diverse nation, the ability to have differences of opinion. A man showing a little attitude on a tv show that is run not by him but by producers is not a crime. I will say it again that it is really naive to think that the producers did not like what was happening. If you think that Chris ran that show then you give him more credit that he deserves. But is it wise to know someone before you get too involved in what makes a person tick. Even if one of judges did not like him they acted in a professional manner. The women "accused" of stealing was not at upset as you would like to think, and the winner has worked with Chris before and they are friendly. In New York Chris could be considered one of the more passive people in the city. And, by the way, if you judged him only by his attitude then you are not giving him the credit of being a good chef, which he is, so in essence you are judging him on personality alone. Talk about pathetic.
foodtvfan at 8:51PM on 06/22/09
I just watched this episode and was shocked by chef burke's behavior. His obvious culinary skills aside, the edit made him look like a complete wanker.
Seandski at 12:09AM on 07/23/09
Wow. FN re-ran this episode tonight and seriously this 'cook' comes off as entitled and simply dirty. First, he misplaces his own ingredient and proceeds to accuse another contestant of stealing from him. Then grabbing and sticking his hand in her mushroom pot before asking is she minds if he takes one. It's already in his hand! After being told his mushrooms were found in the kitchen he begrudgingly and only after prompting mind you..apologizes?! Then on to the spoon and multiple trips from the can to his mouth and back then into the food. Disgusting. When the other male who has worked in a kitchen with this "prodigy" is asked what he thinks of him he says: "he's a bozo!" High praise indeed. Somewhat unlike the rash of posters on this thread who claim to personally know and love him. LMAO!
