Omega-3 pork?

I was frying up plantains in bacon fat last night (mmm) and something came up in my mind.

In 2006, I saw an article on Nature Biotechnology about genetically modified pigs that make omega-3 fatty acids, so that you can get your healthy fatty acids from eating pork.

The study sparked a huge debate among scientists, because it seemed like a misuse of modern biotechnology ("just because we can") which justifies unhealthy eating habits, and consumers probably wouldn't chose genetically modified pigs anyways.
(I think "Just eat flaxseeds and fish!" was a commonly used comment.)

Major newspapers probably reported this, but I missed how it was received in general public (I'm guessing negatively).

So I thought, SE would be the perfect place to ask this question!

Heart-healthy bacon? If available, would you buy omega-3 pork? Why and why not?
