need help with old dessert
Mother in law unexpectedly passed away, would not give up her recipe on one of my favorite desserts. She was old Itatian.
The turnover type consisted of chick peas ground very fine to smooth creamy consistency. It had chocolate, fine nuts and was wrapped in a crust with powdered sugar on it. It also had cinnamon in it. She has been gone since 1999 and I still miss her and her cooking.

It sounds like you're looking for socca. Here's a recipe. Not sure if this link will work as it's a cached copy but this sounds a lot like what you describe.
Savory Socca - not what you asked about but might be interesting...
Can you use any other descriptors for this dessert - or have pictures you can point to??

What kind of crust? crunchy-flaky like phyllo/baklava? Soft/flaky like strudel? Breadlike? Piecrust-like? Was the chickpea-puree in the center, and was it creamy or bready?

the crust was sort of like a strudel and the chickpea puree in the middle was almost as creamy as canolies and mixed with chocolate bits and i think cinnamon on it with powder on it

to chiffonade the shape is like a pastie, she only made it for Christmas or weddings and you could not stop at eating just one

I'm not sure if this is it, but I found a recipe online for Casatelli in the cookbook "A Baker's Odyssey" If you do a Google search for both, you should find it. It doesn't have chocolate in it, but otherwise it sounds similar. Let us know if this could be it.

try googling cavezune or ceci cookies. This is how I recall the filling with chocolate and cecis.
