Big Night!!!!!

Eat Drink Man Woman

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, a movie you probably wouldn't want to take the kids to.

I have a long list and am always on the lookout for more.

American Cuisine
Who Is Killing The Great Chefs Of Europe
Big Night
Babette's Feast
Eat Drink Man Woman
Chocolat
Pieces of April
Like Water For Chocolate
Mostly Martha/No Reservations

Never saw/heard of The Cook/Thief/Wife/Lover - but now I'll BOLO. I have a feeling I need to join Netflix...

By far, my fav is Chocolat...though No Reservations is cute.

We should not forget Ratatouille, the animated film...great culinary philisophy in that one too.

Yes!!! Sorry, Remy...Didn't mean to omit you - add Ratatouille to my list!

Who Is Killing The Great Chefs of Europe is my absolute fave. Love Robert Morley, who wrote a couple of books about food, loved Bisset's jeans and boots and vest, and loved the score, which I found on a record and cooked to for years.

Last weekend, our local film festival showed a documentary short called "Best of the Wurst". I loved it and have been craving currywurst ever since.

"Best of the Wurst chronicles a Korean American woman’s discovery of Berlin through its ultimate snackfood--Currywurst."

Oh, and don't forget Tampopo, the first "Japanese noodle western".

Knitter,
I was trying to remember "Tampopo" as I scrolled down the comments. I would never had been able to come up with it. I enjoyed that one, it was funny and it made me hungry for ramen.
For dramas , I watched one called "Eat Drink Man Woman" lately that kept me interested. I made it through most of "Woman on Top". Mystic Pizza is another that I remember liking. It made me wonder/imagine what the pizza would taste like.
I saw a drama quite some time ago called "The Spitfire Grill" (had to look up the titlle on IMDB since it had been so long ago) I really enjoyed that one, and would recommend it.

Here is a list of tons of food movies. For me, the first that come to mind are Ratatouille and No Reservations. Oh, and Fast Food Nation but I think a lot of you would have slapped me if I said that first :)

Hillary
Chew on That

Wow I had no idea there were so many!? I'll have to watch these.

@gutreactions - Ratatouille is DEFINITELY my favourite animated film ever.

I've seen Chocolat; it's got a really good storyline.
Does Sideways count? I thought it was a cute movie.
Fried Green Tomatoes (?)
Good Burger by Nickelodeon
Super Size Me

Side Note: Did anyone notice that Jaque Pepin was a featured guest on Ugly Betty last week? And then they mentioned Mario Batali in it as well! I was like--oh god cool! I'm a food-nerd.

Eating Raoul
Delicatessen

Now here's one from around 1980 - a great movie 'The Gods Must Be Crazy'. Not about food, but the plot centered around a Coke Bottle.

Also - don't forget 'Alice's Restaurant'. The great Thanksgiving caper !

I know I'm aging myself....these are cult classics and you should try and track them down.

Sideways! I do have to also give a shoutout to Chocolat. I first saw that movie at a high school summer camp. The mother of one of the counselors was some kind of a candy tester/buyer, so we got to snack on soon-to-be-marketed chocolates to fit the theme of the movie. I remember eating some new M&Ms, but I'm not sure if I ever saw them mass marketed. It was so fun!

@ribster - "the gods must be crazy" was one of the greatest movies ever made IMHO.....

what about "I LIKE KILLING FLIES" - kenny shopsin & family's story.... loved that movie .... places like that and people like kenny are on the endangered species list.

Technically, Sophia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" wasn't about food, but it featured all kinds of French pastry porn so I think it counts.

Another super classic was 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner' 1967.

So then to twist the topic a little, let's not forget those movies where there were some really fun 'food related' scenes:

Animal House - the infamous John Belushi food fight.
The Blues Brothers - the Chicago cafe scene with Aretha Franklin.
Blazing Saddles - the funny campfire bean scene.
Ghostbusters (2) - the Stay puffed marshmallow man.

I'm sure there's thousands more out there !

I had nightmares after seeing "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and her Lover". Seriously some crazy shit.

Mostly Martha and Ratatouille. @whatseatingme, wonder no more- Mystic Pizza is a real place, in Mystic Connecticut, if you're ever out that way. Never been there, but I heard it lives up to the film.

Ratatouille, Big Night... I also really liked the movie Dinner Rush. And Waitress! Now I want pie.

Mystic Pizza for sure. I'm from CT so that's one of my favorite movies to begin with.

The ones that come to the top of my mind are

Big Night

The Cook, The Thief...

Alive!

I love Chocolat....but not so much for the chocolate...more for the Johnny Depp. :o)

Fast Food Nation - you will never want a burger again after seeing it. Very indie (which I don't usually like), but very....insightful. Greg Kinnear is the main character. Worth watching!

What's Cooking; Tortilla Soup; Eat Drink Man Woman; Chocolat; Mostly Martha; Woman On Top; Big Night; Waitress; and the bizarre The Green Butchers.

Tortilla Soup is great. Everytime I come across it while channel surfing I watch it no matter how long its been on.
