Mangosteens in Queens?
Does anyone know where to get fresh mangosteens in Queens? I've been to every Asian market in my area and nobody has it.

Mangosteens only crops up occasionally in the U.S., its not something that's carried year round or in great quantity. Just keep your eyes peeled for them.

i've seen mangosteen quite often in chinatown along canal st but the ones here in the U.S. are never fresh because they're frozen before they can be imported here.

They don't seem to be in season now. Anyway, the mangosteens I've seen in the Flushing Chinatown area all seem to be really small, almost black and way too expensive. They don't have the deep purplish ones that are common in Southeast Asia. It may be due to the freezing process.

the ones in chinatown that were frozen tasted horrible when thawed. it was bitter and had a really funky taste. i ended up throwing them all away. i just have to trek to vancouver BC's chinatown to get real fresh mangosteen.
