iPhone in the kitchen

I recently acquired an iPhone and love using it in the kitchen to refer to recipes on the Internet, use the timer, etc.

How do you use your iPhone for cooking? I've downloaded All Recipes and Big Oven, but haven't gotten around to using them yet.

Are there any must-have apps I should check out?

Silver Spoon! I love this one, since it also populates a shopping list for me. Super easy to use. Also - Nigella has a couple mini-eBooks out there that aren't quite as nice as the apps, but not bad, and cheaper than a full book. There was one for Christmas and there's one coming out with all the chocolate cakes in the Feast cookbook. The eReader is a free app and you can open regular eBooks (cookbooks or otherwise) right from there.

I don't have the iPhone, but the Touch does just as well with these :-)

I haven't even used any food apps. I just get recipes from whatever website and keep them on the counter w/the phone. I'm always a little worried about water...I can be a wild person... ;)

That what I do--open the Web site with a recipe and put it on the counter. But I'll check out Silver Spoon.

I use mine in the grocery store -- to check recipes for ingredients. Most use my iPhone gets :-)

I don't have an i-phone but a different kinda "smart" phone that I love. I use it to look up recipes, keep track of things I'm running low on etc. It's a very handy thing and here I thought I hated technology.

Mine has a round dial with finger holes and numbers. It is attached to the wall with just one phone cord and a hook. Works great when the power goes out, but I don't know how to get it to make a shopping list.

Welcome to the cult ;) I keep my grocery list on mine, adding to it whenever I think of something, since I always have it with me. I'm on it right now actually.

Oh, Perky. I adore you. Hahahahaaa...

But, yeah. I love mine. Silver Spoon was the first one that came to mind.

I use Evernote for my shopping list - I can type it up on my computer and it syncs with the App. Also has checkboxes, which is nice. AND my husband has access to the list from his phone, so that makes it easy to send him to the store :)

I too often open recipes on the phone and refer to them as I cook.

@meg3j ~ hate to show my tech ignorance, but I believe you're talking about a different silver spoon than the ones Paris Hilton and her ilk were born with? I'm serious. Educate me please? Can you download recipes? Is it also a phone? I was following the learning curve, but it suddenly sloped beyond my comprehension.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it... I was thinking about Urban Spoon. It's an application for iPhone. Once you touch it to open it, you shake your iPhone and it's like a slot machine. It picks a resto for you. If you don't like the suggestion, shake again. It tells you where it is , type of food, and price range. It uses GPS to find a resto for you based on neighborhood and price. It also has reviews and such. Pretty cool!

I can't find Silver Spoon when I do a search for the iPhone app, and when I do a Google search, I come up with unrelated stuff. What's the URL?

I would like to know too, thanks!

I want an iPhone so badly...didn't know they had a cooking timer! So cool!

I'm locked into another 2 yr. contract with T-Mobile because I just a did a phone upgrade but when it's up I'm thinking of getting an iPhone. Some of the apps are really cool.

My Touch is at home so I don't have details on the app here with me - but here's some info from the internet (sorry for lack of direct link - my techie skills are very limited). Maybe it's listed under its Italian name? I forget! Sorry! http://www.tuaw.com/2008/12/16/prima-cerca-first-look-cucchiaio-dargento/

This is the Silver Spoon:

Urban Spoon is the iphone app.

I don't use mine in the kitchen. I'm too messy.
