Girl Scout Cookies - New Cookie - Dulce De Leche
I am trying to figure out which Girl Scout cookies to buy, and this year, at least in my area, there is a new option - Dulce de Leche.
Has anyone gotten a chance to try it? What did you think? Worth it?
Does anyone else have any new flavors in their area that are either worth trying or that we should avoid?

What area do you live in? Haven't seen those here (in Chicago)! I wish I would because I adore dulce de leche. As for me, I bought a whole bunch of boxes of Thin Mints (per usual - they're so good).

The new Dulce de Leche are actually quite delicious. I love to dunk them in tea, which slightly melts the caramel icing on top. They are definitely worth the price to try, and I think I'm going to buy another box when I get the chance, although I still have some Thin Mints and Samoas left.

I live in the Twin Cities (Minnesota). I had never even heard of them until I ran into a colleague in the gym yesterday and she mentioned that she was selling them with her daughter (I have been desparate to find them in my area), and she emailed me the list of what was available. There are also now sugar-free chocolate chip cookies, but I i am just not sure on those...even though my parents should avoid too much sugar (both are pre-diabetic).
What do you have in Chicago?

I actually had the Dulce de Leche just a few nights ago, and I'm kind of on the fence about it. The flavor was pretty good, but I wasn't particularly impressed with the texture. To me, it reminded me of the cheap, store-bought cookies that you have as a snack in elementary school. But, to be completely honest, I kind of feel this way about most Girl Scout cookies. I love the Thin Mints, and can eat a ton of them in one sitting, but I'm not really crazy about any of the other ones. I guess I'm just used to baking/eating homemade cookies, and in my opinion, Girl Scout cookies aren't even close to cookies baked from scratch.
But if you love Girl Scout cookies in general, they'd probably be worth it to you...

Well, they aren't actually for me, you see. Even as a girl scout myself I never liked them. Like you, @kimberleymac, we always had fresh-baked homemade cookies and now I bake constantly. I get them because my parents have a sweet spot for them and every year I buy a few boxes of their favorites to munch on. To me, they just remind me of going door to door in the frigid Midwest every year to try to pawn them off on people. But it was a good learning experience, and frankly, I like helping the Girl Scouts. :)

Meh. There were scouts outside the grocery store the other day, and first I said "no" because I still have thin mints in the freezer from last year, and then I saw the dulce de leche and figured they'd be worth a try.
They aren't horrible, but I wouldn't buy them again.
I can't recall the last cookie I bought at a grocery store, so I don't know how these would compare, but there's no way they compete with home made.
Shortbread would have been a better buy. At least I could have crushed those up and used them as a pie crust.

I didn't like the dulce de leches too much,I sorta felt like they were just...eh. Too plain maybe? I also tried the sugar free chocolate chips for the first time, not realizing they were sugar free, and it was pretty gross. If I'm going to buy Girl Scout cookies I'll stick with Samoas, Thin Mints, and the chocolate/peanut butter ones.

According to the website, there are two different kinds of bakeries that serve different areas of the country, and the dulce la leche are only made by one of the bakeries, although some cookies are made by both bakeries:

dbcurrie (or someone who bought them and didn't like them)--you should make a pie crust with them--even if it doesn't turn out, at least you can have more fun with them than eating them!

@dbcurrie, you have leftover Thin Mints? I thought that was an oxymoron!

Tagalongs were always my favorite, but Dulce de Leche sounds great!
I haven't seen that type sold before.

Just give me all the Samoas...er, excuse me, Caramel Delights, and we can still be friends.

@julieC, last year I stocked up on thin mints and so did my husband, who bought them from someone at work. Mostly I use them in the summer, when I crush them and put them into homemade vanilla ice cream. I'll eat a few of them, but they don't call to me like they used to.

I tried the dulce de leche cookies last week, and didn't care for them. The flavor was a little...off. It had a whiff of a chemical aftertaste. But I think the big disappointment was the texture. It's just a dry cookie with a drizzle of icing on top. I like the texture of dulce de leche almost as much as the flavor, so for the cookie to be totally missing out on any of that glorious lush texture...meh.

I just got a box from the ladyfriend this weekend, and I have to say that they taste pretty good, a lot like the danish caramel wafers (stroopwafels?) I am so fond of. They are a little chalky if eaten at room temp, but dunked in warm milk or tea, or maybe even coffee, they reach their peak.

The dulce de leche are kind of dull. They taste ok at first, but after two cookies the texture is just weird. I'll stick to samoas next time.

Do not like them at all. I bought a box after one of the girls told me they were "REALLY good," but I won't make that mistake again. They're hard and crunchy, and have these little "caramel" chip-like things running through them that remind me of the syrup pockets in a McD's McGriddle. (Please don't ask me why I know that haha.)

@lo82070 - I was so looking for a soul sibling in the Caramel Delights love! Those are BY FAR my favorite. So much so that I'm sort of hoarding the Dreyer's/Edy's special edition of the flavor. I'm scared that since it's "special edition," I'm going to get to the store one day to find out its run is over.
