Clueless in Tucson
I will be going to Tucson for business. Have never been there before. I was hoping I could get some suggestions on some good restaurants. A good steakhouse, BBQ and anywhere else you might suggest. Thanks

We had a fabulous meal at J, which is the less-fancy sibling of Janos, at one of the high-end hotels in the foothills. Great stuff. The cafe at the Tucson Museum of Art is a tasty lunch. You can get Indian tacos at the remuda by San Xavier del Bac, the old Indian mission just out from town. And there's fine low-budget Mexican at a place in the western part of town called Pico de Gallo.
Our daughter lives in Tucson, and we always eat well there.

Ahhhhh, hometown. :) Try Casa Molina (Speedway/Wilmot location) for good Sonoran-style Mexican food--my favorite. You might also like Cafe Poca Cosa if you're into mole sauce and that type of Mexican food. Beyond Bread is great for lunch, sandwiches, etc. Also, you must have an eegee. I would also highly recommend Armitage at La Encantada, and I have heard good things about Janos and related restaurants. Sorry I don't really have any recs for steakhouses/bbq. You're better off sticking with more local food instead.

Vivace at River and Campbell is one of the best restaurants in Tucson.
Lotus Garden on Speedway has decent Chinese food.

I lived in Tucson for 18 years, and am back monthly.
It is a very good food town. People care!
I agree with Poca Cosa, it rocks. J Bar is great too. Plus you can have the winelist from the Janos side of the restaurant which is formal dining. The list is very extensive, and very good.
For steak, I'd say Flemings. It's a chain, and pricey, but the steak is the best I've had in AZ.
I don't know BBQ, but people say Mr. K's is good.
When I'm in Tucson, I always eat at Tavolino, great Piemonte style food,
Jax Kitchen, home style cooking with a very creative edge, Super-yum,
Bluefin, great cocktails, and fresh oysters in the desert, and Feast. Feast is always something different, really creative, great wine selection, and super good people!

Hi there! I've been living in Tucson for 6 years.
Steakhouse: Silver Saddle, I-10 and 6th Ave. Great ambiance, great t-bones and prime rib, superb prices.
Vivace is nice, but frankly too expensive for Tucson.
Must grab a Sonoran hot dog at El Guero Canelo (visit the Oracle location).
In agreement with Beyond Bread (enjoying one of their lovely sandwiches on the desk I'm typing this on). Hands down the best sandwich place in town - and they even make their own chips.
Get some Mexican-style grilled chicken at Pollo Feliz.
A new BBQ place is BrushFire on Campbell. Decent 'cue. BBQ in Tucson is kind of weak, though.
Rocco's Little Chicago on Broadway - great Chicago style pizza (there's quite a few Chicagoans who have landed here, and frankly that's a great thing), and the signage as you pull in will make you laugh.
Cup Cafe in the Hotel Congress and Blue Willow on Campbell (across from BrushFire) make great breakfasts. Bobo's on Grant/Country Club has incredible pancakes.
Send me a message if you'd like more ideas. Came here from LA and never looked back - Tucson's a great foodie town!!!

Steakhouse- my mom & dad live in Catalina ( a suburb) and swear that El Coral is really good (and affordable)-it's old school Tucson grub- been there for years. Amazing mesquite grilled steaks and I remember the prickly pear margarita was pretty good too! here;s a site:

Please don't miss Kon Tiki if you like tiki bars- been there since 1963. It is old school awesome- I try to hit it when I'm in town. here's a link: http://www.kontikitucson.com/
