Cereal Bar

There's this place in Knoxville, TN that's called The Cereal Bar, and I'm told by a friend of mine that it's Cereal Mecca for us cereal lovers. He says there's a gazillion different kinds of cereal and they also have different kids of milk-- whole, 2%, skim, soy, etc.

What is your favourite kind of cereal? When do you like to eat it? Any add ins? What kind of milk?

For me, it's Life. Followed by Raisin Bran with banana slices. Plain Cheerios follow with a sprinkling of sugar. My favourite time to eat cereal is at like 1 in the AM.

Oh, and 2% or skim, please, thankyouverymuch!

Kashi 7-grain puffed for me! I've loved puffed grains as long as I can remember myself. If I don't have Kashi, I'll settle for puffed wheat. I didn't grow up on sugary cereals, so I don't like my cereal ultra sweet and prefer to buy it unsweetened and add sugar myself. Actually, I grew up eating plain cornflakes rather often - haven't had those in a while:-).

I can eat my cereal milk-less as a snack, although whole milk would be my regular choice. "Whole milk", because I don't keep any other milk on hand. No add ins, normally. When I love yoghurt (I go through phases of loving it and not caring for it), I sometimes eat my cereal with yoghurt instead of milk. I don't have any particular "cereal time", it can be good at 1 am or 1 pm just the same.

I absolutely hate when cereal gets soggy, and when I was a kid I was a really slow eater, so I hated most cereals. Enough sitting in milk, and they all get limp and flabby.

And I don't like sweet cereals. So, that pretty much narrows down my choices. I like Cheerios about the best. Plain Cheerios with whole milk. Next best would be some kind of Chex. But I buy that so seldom, I never remember which ones I liked best.

There was some kind of puffed cereal I liked as a kid, but I don't remember what it was. Don't know if I'd like it now. A while back I tried a bunch of cereals that seemed more adult (Cheerios vs. FrankenCookie or whatever) and most of them seemed way too sweet to me. So Cheerios it is.

Funny thing is that when I was a kid, I would have been perfectly happy eating dry cornflakes with a glass of milk on the side. But no, it had to be poured in a bowl, with milk on top. And the corn flakes would get soggy and I wouldn't want to eat them.

I'd probably like corn flakes more now, but the memory of those soggy flakes in the remainder of the milk -- eh, I'll pass. Cheerios will be fine. And they're Cheery.

Or maybe they're just spooky, because the only thing you can spell with them is OOoooooooooooOOOOooooo

I always have two kinds of cereal on hand for when I'm feeling a little bit hungry or a lot hungry. For a little bit hungry, it's Rice Chex or Crispix. For a lot hungry it's Raisin Bran Crunch, Oatmeal Raisin Crisp or Frosted Mini Wheats, whichever is on special when I'm at the store and have run out of the previous box. I don't add anything to any cereal.

I have them with 1%. I'd prefer organic but I can't find 1/2 gallons of organic in plastic containers and there isn't anywhere that will let me recycle a cardboard milk container and I haven't been able to make them work in compost. So I've opted for non-organic milk in a recyclable plastic jug.

My fav would be Grape Nuts, Captain Crunchberry or Granola. I have no prefrence about the milk except NO soy or rice milk (hate them). But I like and will eat all cereals. I rarely eat cereals, i don't know, if it's around and I am in the mood for it yes, but that is very seldom. But when I do, it is soooooo good.

Decent granola is about the only cereal I can stand to eat. I too suffered from soggophobia like @dbcurrie, and have only recently started to eat any cereal at all. My bf got me hooked on his usual: ~3/4 c plain yogurt, milk, good granola, berries, cinnamon. I also drizzle a little agave nectar if I'm up for something a little sweeter, and I also like to drop little pieces of peanut butter (easy when the jar is in the fridge) for added taste and a little protein boost.

There is a place like this in Philadelphia too, called Cereality, on UPenn's campus.

My personal favorite is probably Honey Nut Chex, always with skim milk.

I'm a cereal addict. I can, and do eat it morning noon and night. My all time fave Nabisco Fruit Wheats (mini shreaded wheats with a blueberry filling) isn't made anymore. While I'm a sucker for anything new there are only a few I buy over and over again, Kellogg's Fuit Harvest, Post Great Grains Raisin Date & Pecan flavor, Frosted Mini-wheats. When I was pregnant many years ago I couldn't get enough Wheaties with chocolate milk........Warning, there's a new blueberry Special K out now that is just down right nasty. It tastes like yucky chemicals and even leaves a weird squeaky coating on your teeth, like when you eat rhubarb. It's one box of cereal I may never finish.

Weetabix!!!! God, I love that stuff. Like @dbcurrie, I can't stand mushy cereal, so I pour 2% milk in a cup and dunk those awesome biscuits for just the right amount of time (slightly softened but still with a lot of crunch).

Second fave is Cheerios. Unless you're Wetabix, how can you beat Cheerios for pure delicious awesomeness? Especially with bananas sliced in.

I really hate sweet cereal. The only one I've ever tried that wasn't gag inducing is Special K Strawberry, but I'm thinking that using the phrase "not gag inducing" is probably not high praise.

I love cereal! Peanut Butter Puffins are my absolute favorite. After them, I'll look for Honey Bunches of Oats (Honey Toasted variety), Reeses Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Heart to Heart, and Chocolate Chex, and then I'll buy what's on sale. I also love Vanilla Almond Crisp and Apple Cinnamon Crisp from Peace Cereal but they're kind of expensive. And granola or Cracklin' Oat Bran is a special treat that I occasionally buy. Really, I'll eat any kind of cereal. Got to be either skim milk or straight out of the box, maybe with a glass of milk on the side. I try not to buy it too often though, since I generally will put away a box in one sitting, and not only is that a lot of sugar, but it's also really expensive.

It used to be Captain Crunch with Crunchberries, Frosted Mini-Wheats, the classic Frosted Flakes or CocoPuffs. Then I developed diabetes....now I can have Uncle Sam's cereal and I spend the rest of the day picking flax seeds from my teeth. What I wouldn't do for a bowl of Fruit Loops!

Oh, I should not be responding to this. I never eat it now, but Captain Crunch until the roof of my mouth is raw! Such delicious goodness. And when I'm pregnant, raisin bran with 1/2 and 1/2. That's not bad for you, right?
Life cereal straight out of the box while watching TV.

BTW, My kids are only allowed Kashi. My daughter gets very annoyed if I have a bowl of the "illegal" cereal.

Regular Cheerios with 2% or whole was my pregnancy obsession (heavenly). On a day to day basis my weakness is either Lucky Charms or Reese's Peanut Butter Puffs. My daughter also eats healthier cereals than I do. :)

Kashi Go Lean Crunch with whole milk and sliced bananas.

I love plain ol' Cheerios with vanilla soymilk. I could eat it any time of the day or night. Good with banana or strawberries in it too, but not both fruits at the same time!

Mmmm cereal. I never tire of it, and can eat it at any point within the day. In fact, when I'm hungry but don't know what else I want, I almost always end up having cereal. For me, it's Kashi Go Lean Crunch when I'm being healthy, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch when I'm not. Honey Nut Cheerios and Granola (NO raisins!) are good too. I love bananas on top, but am not fond of other fruit on it...although I'm a big fruit eater in general. Something about the fruit with the milk bothers me. As for the milk, I always use skim, although I'm starting to develop a taste for soymilk, and I happen to really like it with granola. Yum, now I'm starving.

Plain, yellow box Cheerios. I eat about five cups at once, no joke. Dry, or possibly with just enough milk to *slightly* moisten the cereal, without it actually becoming "wet." Otherwise, dry Honey Nut Cheerios (ah, the memories) :)

Life w/ organic whole milk, no additions. I let it sit in a bowl for a few minutes, then eat it.

When I was a kid, I would pour it in a cup with milk and eat it while watching cartoons.

Just last night, I had cereal for...dessert? I had lasagne for dinner and had to wash it down with something. So, Life is good any time of the day.

Waffle Crisp. It pretty much revolutionized how I feel about cereal. A giant bowl with some 2%. mmmm.

I love love love cereal.

I'm currently in love with a couple of Trader Joe's cereals, including Vanilla Almond Clusters and Honey Almond and Flax 9 Whole Grain. I eat these with simple unsweetened soy milk.

Other faves include:
Cinnamon Puffins
Granola with banana or berries
Frosted Mini Wheats
Kashi Go Lean Crunch

All with soy milk, please. Yum!

Honey Nut Cheerios, Raisin Bran, Kellog's Fitness,Trix, Cocoa Pebbles, or Smacks (used to be Super Golden Crisp, didn't it?) with 1% milk

Muesli/granola with plain 2.8% yogurt, never ever milk!

I'm especially fond of the cereal dinner when DH is out of town...

When I was studying for the bar exam, in the last week or so before the exam (which, though only a few months ago - blessedly - feels like ages), all I wanted was fruity pebbles, with 1% (skim's too watery for cereal, I find). Not quite nutritious, but oh so delicious.

I usually eat it with skim or 1%, but I love 2%. It feels like a special treat.

In the winter, I eat Raisin Bran, and in the summer, I prefer Rice Krispies with tons of blueberries. I like my cereal soggy.

And in a perfect world, there would still be such a thing as C-3PO cereal. I would eat it daily, because I remember it being delicious and not as sweet as some of the other "sweet" cereals.

Oh cereal, yum yum yum. In no particular order:

Cheerios (the plain one, a classic)
Grape Nuts (with a small pat of butter, a drizzle of honey and some milk, zapped in the microwave for 45 seconds -- if you've never had this, try it, it will change your life)
Puffins - any kind
Kashi Heart to Heart or Heart to Heart Blueberry Oat with Flakes
Trader Joe's Strawberry Yogurt O's
Quaker Oat Squares
Annie's Fruity Bunnies

I used to love Golden Grahams, but haven't had them in years and I imagine they might be too sweet for me now. Also - weird food bugaboos - I can't stand Raisin Bran and don't much care for granola (except when I make it). Love raisins in hot cereal, but not cold. Odd.

I like cold cereal but I really have to be in the mood for it to eat a whole bowl. I dont it that much because it's hard for me to finish a whole box because I get bored with it quickly...

some faves of mine:
Post Blueberry Morning
Quaker Honey Graham Oh's
Raisin Nut Bran
Kix
Frosted Shredded Wheat

all with whole or 2% reduced fat milk. Mmmm...

When I was a kid I ate cereal in a mixing bowl with a tablespoon and about a quart of milk... when the cereal started to get soggy, I loved it even more... I ate all kinds in huge quantities to the point my mother stopped buying it cause I'd eat a big box in an afternoon. My favs are cheerios, life, corn flakes, wheeties, rice crispies, puffed wheat/rice, damn really any cereal I could literally dump copius amounts of sugar on... it was like a snack after the cereal was gone... drag your spoon across the bottom and dredge for sugar!

BTW.... I never buy cereal anymore..... I think I already filled my quota on cereal eating!

Pavlov--I also adored soggy cereal. As a kid, I loved Frankenberry, Frosted Lucky Charms, and Trixx, and graduated to Frosted Flakes, Golden Grahams, and Honeycomb. Then went through a Product 19 and Cracklin' Oat Bran period. But now I only eat oatmeal--I don't really like cereal any more and it leaves me feeling very bloated, even if I have only a small dish.

Cereal is one of my favorite things to eat--I eat the healthier stuff for breakfast-like Kashi clusters with almond and flax, Special K, Cheerios, Raisin Bran or Rice Krispies....
Cereal to snack on: I love Cpt. Crunch with Crunchberries, Lucky Charms, Frosted Mini Wheats, Golden Grahams....
Along with my love of soup, (from the other thread) I could eat cereal day and night

I love cereal and I am always on the lookout for delicious low calorie cereals. My favorites are Kashi and Kashi Mighty Bites, Barbara's Shredded Spoonfuls, and Puffins.
