NYC: Your Favorite Death & Co. Cocktail?

Going there for the first time tonight. I'm generally not a big cocktail fan, I'm a beer, wine, brandies and scotch drinker. But I'm looking forward to going, and was hoping you could tell your faves and why you like them. I'm intrigued by the craftsmanship and the purported use of fresh and quality ingredients. Thanks!

I'm more of a rum/gin drinker but my fiance prefers scotches and tequilas (he really likes smoky or spicy drinks). They have some great bartenders there. From the menu, I think you might like the Myla Breckinridge (scotch, absinthe, lime, sugar cane syrup).

If you are willing to venture into other whiskey territory, the Whirling Tiger (bourbon, apple, lemon, ginger) is fantastic, and the Cooper Union (Irish whiskey, St. Germain, Laphroaig rinse, bitters) is also quite good.

Or you can go off the menu and just tell them what you like or are in the mood for.

wow, those sound intense. Looking forward to it!

I love the Elder Fashioned. It's one of the few drinks that manages to be tough and still feature elderflower liqueur. And watching the bartenders work their magic makes those $13 cocktails worth every penny.

I would not patronize this place. The waitstaff at the door were rude and would not even let us enter the bar (rather than saying there was a long wait and asking if we wanted to put our name down we were rudely informed that it wasn't happening tonight. At 10pm). It would be fine to say you are full, but the attitude and rudeness are not required. Needless to say, I am never returning.

@simon: what did you end up ordering?

Alaina, I had the Myla Breckenridge, which was really crazy, in a good way. I never thought the smoky peatyness of scotch would match so interestingly with the anise of the absinthe. The lime juice helped to brighten it all up. I also had a Sleepy Hollow Fizz, rum, lemon juice, maple syrup, pumpkin puree and an egg yolk. Delicious, tasted like pumpkin pie in a glass. I will definitely be going back, the menu is wildly intriguing, filled with exotic stuff, and the food looked good too. It is damn expensive though, so to be reserved for a special treat.

@Telaviv: I was there on the early side, but I could definitely sense the 'tude, and could see how it would be a shitshow during peak hours. I wouldn't want to be there or attempt to get in during prime time. It was nice and quiet when I got there (7ish) and was getting louder and filling up by the time I left. The guy at the door was a jackass, but not more so than the majority of places with some degree of notoriety.
