What part of the Chicken Wing do you like best?

With the Superbowl coming up this is the perfect time to discuss....What part of the chicken wing do you like? The flat "wing" part or the little drummies? I personally like the wing part better and it seems I am in the minority.

I like the flat wingy part too. the drummette seems to have too much gristle, and I'm one of the weird ones that pick apart chicken before I can eat it. I cant bite into a piece of chicken if my life depended on it. lol

I vary, but mostly it's the flat part. Fortunately Mr. Meatloaf prefers the drum, so it all works out.

My OH and I seem to be a perfect couple wing-wise - he fancies drummettes, I really love the wing part. This way we enjoy our wings with no fights or compromises!

I like the drummies the best, more meat on them. However, my daughter likes the flat part...we call them 2 boners.

I don't have a particular preference, but hubby like the drummettes.

Flat wing, hands down. The meat is sweet and tender - best part of the chicken. The drum is tough and chewy - you can have them!

The flat is tender and juicy. The drummette is tough. And the flapper section (wing tip)? Chewy.

If the skin is very crispy then the flat, otherwise I have to pull the skin off and not eat it.

love the flat top and the wing tip!!! that's really my favorite.

I think that I like the wings best. The drummette I will eat but I am not a big fan of dark meat or any drums of that matter. Like the other say above I will not eat any of it if they are dry and stringy. But I can take em or leave em, if there other things that I like to eat then i will go them first.

I'm sure a lot of you will hate me for this, my BF does:
I'm so particular with my chicken wings. I love the flavour--but they tend to be alot of work for the amount of meat I end up getting because I cant STAND chewing the meat OFF of the bone (then I end up with pieces of fat, vains, grissle, etc) so I have to manually pull the meat out with my hands...

...this is easier with the "wing" cut.

i'm the weirdo and looooove the drummies... and the fiance likes the flats so we trade... it works for us...

but i am also like you hungrychristel and pick apart my wings... one vein and i'm done... i never hear the end of it

i like the flat wing part the best. When I buy wings at the supermarket, I have to take the good with the bad (drumettes!). When I get them at the farmer's market, then I can buy only flat parts - yaaa. I make a tomato based sauce with onions, garlic, brown sugar, worcestshire and A-1 sauces, vinegar and hot sauce. Marinate wings for an hour and then bake at 375 for an hour or until crispy. If you like sweet, sour and hot, these are delicious.

I like the flats best....and I pick them apart w/my fingers too!

Flat part - drummettes have too much....solid white meat on them.

I like the flat part. This reminds me of a question that caused a loud and contentious discussion around the lunch table at work one day...is a chicken wing white or dark meat?

I like the flat wing part. I take them apart too!! Oh my gosh, I was soo happy to read the other posts that mentioned doing this. I am made fun of ALL THE TIME by my BF and friends. I can't stand chicken fat or the skin so I take it apart. I also don't like eating off the bone.

I just love how this site makes me feel like I am not the only one...:)

I eat the whole wing, but find the flat part more moist and flavorful because of the extra fat and bones. I even eat the gristle at the ends and parts of the wing tip.

@Butrflygirly, @cowprintrabbit and @huney - I can make you feel really better about yourselves - for a very long time, I would actually eat chicken with knife and fork (you can imagine how much fun thatwas to whoever witnessed it. I made sure not too many people did), because I could not eat chicken off the bone. I could fabricate a chicken when I was 10, I could cook it in a thousand way, but I could not eat it off the bone. I'm slightly better now - I use my hands instead of knife and fork:-).

@Brooke: Hi there sister!!! I truly think we were separated at birth. I was never able to eat chicken off the bone. I don't know what it is. I still can't. Fried chicken? Baked chicken? Yup, I'm taking it apart with a fork until I can't use that anymore and finish the job off with my fingers. You have no idea how happy I am right now. :)

@Butrflygirly - hey sister! I think I may have a pretty good idea, because that's how I feel:-)

Is it me or am I the only one who just doesn't like wings that much? Sure they can taste good but it seems like so much work and mess for just an itty bitty bite or two of chicken. I don't get it. I like a whole chicken breast or, ya know, boneless chicken wings :) Sorry if I'm making anyone gasp in horror.

Drumette please! I LIKE the gristle :D But I dont like the fatty all skin, no meat of the wing bit.

Don't really like wings either. I do, however, like to take a spoon and suck up the sauce left on the plate or in the container if take out.
Sorry if that's gross.

The oysters. Those succulent morsels of chickeny goodness in the backbone. One of the reasons I always buy whole chickens. It's the richest of dark meat. Also love thighs.

OMG...I didn't realize you said WING. Sorry... DOH!

I like the forearm. I know everyone likes wingettes but I love that part. When properly cooked, you can suck the meat right off the forearm.

@chiff, I'm with ya on the oysters! I always call dibs when carving a bird.

flappers all the way for me. love to just pull out the bones and eat 'em in 2 bites! definately don't like the drummettes.

Definitely the wing. I also, pick apart the wings before I eat them. I'll pass on Buffalo wings, if there are only drummettes.

Alice01 and pjracz10: Drumettes are white meat! Some say the whole wing is white, but the flat portion is moist like dark meat.

i grab the flat one but will eat drumettes if that's all i can get. i just hate cutting them up
