What Gender Are Your Kitchen Appliances?

You know how cars are considered female? And how other languages give genders to nongendered things? So what gender are your appliances?

The brands on my stove and microwave are Jenn Air and GE and I joking said I was naming them Jennie and Genie, so they must be girls. I'm pretty sure the Kitchenaid and Cuisinart are male.

Maybe I just spend too much time in the kitchen.

My refridge is named Elma because she reminds of this old fashioned, plump, country (the type of you see in Norman Rockwell) grandmother type, that has a bunch of goodies. But that is about it.

Hmmm, never thought about it, but now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure my microwave is a guy. The fridge is gender-neutral and the stove is definitely female. I can't explain why, and they don't have names. Yet.

Ha, I agree with "the stove is definitely female", but the jury is still out on the convection toaster-oven. The wine cooler is a guy, the fridge may be too, but the big slow cooker is certainly a woman, grandmotherish. I'm not sure about the one that's smaller.

The coffee brewing station is female, but I'm quite certain the espresso maker is a guy. The electric grill/griddle is actually named Wolfie (I'll let you guess how that happened)...the mixer and the two blenders (immersion and regular) are certainly male, as is the citrus juicer and, come to think of it, most other appliances... Hmm, it seems that I'm mostly surrounded by boys in the kitchen!

My thick-bottomed, 12 quart stock pot is a guy -- his name is Rock.

My espresso maker is a total chick -- Elisa.

And my favorite santoku chef's knife? Definitely a girl.

Slascha.

My range is named Wolferella because she is a Wolf. The beverage fridge is named garçon.

I don't have names for any of my appliances.... but I'm pretty sure my kegerator is a guy..... a guy that keeps calling me...... taunting me...... that son of a bitch! "Alright, Alright.... I'm COMING!"

I pursue a 'don't ask, don't tell policy' with my appliances.

@ Pavlov thats funny......

Hah...my Kitchenaid Pro 6 is..."Arnold"...as in Swartzeneggar and my OH's bulky juicer is " the B#@$%", as in " get that B@%$# outta my way so I can use Arnold!" (um... small counter space)

I've told all of my appliances, they can decide for themselves.

I tell my mandoline, "Don't you dare bite me." I guess he's a guy.

Everything that can hurt me is either a guy or I've converted it into a eunich. If it holds food for me and is loving, it's a Mom or Grandmother. If it's adorable and fun (like my ice cream maker), it's a granddaughter.

Really, no gender associations. Why get angry at my stick blender? None of it was HIS fault! ;-D

Is pos considered a gender?

Because that's what I call my range all the time.

My double wall ovens are George and Gracie. George is on top but has a slightly smaller interior for some odd reason. So Gracie gets the larger things. My kitchenaid mixer is Daisy--she's the loveable old workhorse who makes a boatload of bread dough. There's another Grace in the kitchen--the ceramic flat top stove who is Grace Slick. The fridge is Homer. The little Weber Smokey Joe is not Joe, he is actually Katz, in honor of Bill Bryson's friend in "A Walk in the Woods." Katz goes with us when we hike. The Weber gas grill is Lola--'she walked like a woman and talked like a man" yup that's my Lola.

well i must say i am surprised this way pulled. i was expecting something more raunchy than this. not off topic at all.

@dearrie, it's a judgement call by the administrators, and I wasn't offended that it was pulled originally. Although it's about appliances, it's not about cooking with them or buying them. So it's technically not on the topic of food or cooking.

Sometimes it's a fine line, and the admins make the call. Not a big deal really, and not worth gnashing teeth over.

I have 6 qt. kitchen aid pro i'm pretty sure it's a boy. It was my first baby and I named him "the beast." Every time we moved since I got him 5 years ago I have been the only one allowed to carry him. Other's have tried but then realizing that I was serious about killing them if they dropped him they promptly and gently put him down.

@dbcurrie~i understand why they pulled it, i was just expecting different comments. that's all. no big deal, i agree. on to the next thread, i say...

I call my Kitchen Aid stand mixer Ina, after the Barefoot Contessa. It's sky blue and I just love it.

My caviar KitchenAid is totally a dude. But he's very effeminate.

I don't know about kitchen appliances, but our truck is named Jelly. I don't know why, but we like it.
