Vegan Honey
Hi I have found a great honey replacement called
" Sweet Freedom" the natural syrup sweetener.
I love it as a sweetener in drinks and also on toast in place of honey.
anyone using it yet ?

Isn't maple syrup vegan?
LearP at 9:39PM on 01/29/09
yes, but maple syrup (and sugar, and agave nectar) isn't a distinct product/brand that you can try to drum up some buzz about by spamming foodie forums.

hmm, methinks you may be on to something, @joyyy

I was dying at the concept of a vegan honey. It just sounded so...odd. I was thinking of poor barry getting mad we stole his honey and wanting it back. I love the Bee Movie. :)

why yes, i put it in my kona coffee all the time...

i use agave nectar... it's vegan and works just as honey

I think the OP meant to title this thread, "Vegan Spam."
In all seriousness, there are already honey-like products on the market, not to mention a wide variety of non-animal-derived sweeteners (natural cane sugar, brown rice syrup, molasses, maple syrup, organic corn syrup, sorghum, sugar syrup, agave nectar, stevia ...).

Mix it with Kona coffee and baste your catfish farmer until flaky, flaky, flaky. Shill taste like spam!
PerkyMac at 1:46PM on 01/30/09
@Perky - LMAO.

@perky -- LOL!

@julie ~ LOL backatcha! Add a season, make it 5-8-5 and you'll have a shill haiku. Hey, we should have our own shill contest next time.

what's the catfish farmer thing about? Inside joke or am I totally missing something? Do tell!
simon at 3:20PM on 01/30/09
It was a shill post simon. English was definitely not the poster's first language. At one point, as I recall, they even spelled it catish. It started out as sounding like a catfish farmer was something good to eat. Perhaps SE can post a link, or maybe those things get burned permanently. We had a great time kidding around with it and included some of the other products shills tried to get away with - using elaborate stories in most cases, then posting a link to their website. Our bad for still referring to them, but it was great fun and the posts were hilarious.

Interestingly, this post's twin sister was removed a few days ago, probably because it was deemed spam. I think the earlier one had a link to the website, and i know it had slightly different wording. Again, it's that fine line between spam and an interesting food product someone might actually be interested in.
My quibble with this is that they're promoting it as vegan honey, which makes no sense at all, unless they're using mechanized bees. Otherwise, it's just a sweetener like agave or maple syrup or even simple syrup. I'd be less annoyed if the claim was more honest and simply said that it was an alternative sweetener that some people might like. If there were specific benefits to it, that's fine, too. Vegan honey? Nah.
dbcurrie at 4:10PM on 01/30/09
@dbcurrie - very true about spamming and conversation about new products. But I think when someone registers an account on a forum just for the purpose of plugging the product, that counts as spam. If someone who contributes to the forums started a thread to talk about it, I don't think that would be spam.
