Offline: Twin Cities SE Get-together?
I know Traveller and I are in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Anyone else?
I'm in the western burbs - Plymouth to be exact. Traveller posted that he is in South St. Paul.
Thanks Traveller for getting the ball rolling on this. It's a great idea and one that I've been wishing for. I tried meetup.com to find people to try new places with but the dining out groups are too big and filled up too fast.

I'd be interested! I'm in S. Mpls.

I tried that same thing and came up with the same results, to be honest. I would love to try someplace new, if either of you would be interested. Do either of you have a place in mind that you have wanted to try? I live closer to Saint Paul, but can easily drive (with the help of Map Quest) to Minneapolis. We could try to find a place that none of us has been to and go from there. How does that sound?

Sounds good to me. Sad thing is almost everything will be new to me since my friends and family stick to chains so I'll let others throw out ideas first.
I'm open to either side of town as long as the weather is good. My car was not made for Minnesota winters but I love it in the summer too much to give it up yet.
Traveller, don't know if you're interested in sweets, but one meetup group that did work out well for me is the Cupcake group - it's not disgustingly large so events are accessible - we're headed to The Salty Tart at Midtown Global Market this weekend. I hope to make a day of it and try other foods as well.

I can think of a dozen places that I haven't been yet that I've wanted to try, but if you have somewhere you were thinking of, I'm open to anything.

Let's hear them Drew!

I keep hearing great things about Nami, the sushi place, which is meant to be fantastic. And apparently, Jun Bo in Bloomington actually does a really decent dim sum - seven days a week.

Let's see: Blue Door Pub (jucy lucys), Pak Zam Zam (Pakistani), Ngon Bistro, Sen Yai Sen Lek, Marla's Caribbean, Moto-i, Be'wiched, Tampopo, Rinata, Red Stag, Victor's.
And Nami sounds really good. I haven't had sushi in way too long.

i am addicted. I love sushi. i have heard from a friend, though, who loves Japanese, that Moto-i isn't all that it's cracked up to be. But that's him - who knows. Ngon Bistro or Pak Zam Zam both sound interesting. Have you ever been to the Kurdish restuarant in Saint Paul - Babani's? I am told that it's amazing!
We might have trouble narrowing this down!
Traveller at 11:20AM on 01/13/09
I haven't been, but Babani's sounds cool too. I have no idea what Kurdish cuisine would even look like!

I've never been to any of these places so I'm up for trying anything. The only times I've had sushi, it's been at disgusting places so I didn't like it. One of my "goals" for this year is to try GOOD sushi to see if I really didn't like it or if it was just the strip-mall places that I was in.

So, out of curiosity, when would anyone be available? Are weeknights after work okay, or would a weekend be preferable?
Traveller at 10:20PM on 01/17/09
I prefer weekends, but can usually do weeknights given a few days notice.
I work until 6:00 on weeknights in St. Louis Park and any night is usually okay with the exception of Mondays. Mondays are never good since I always have a paper due on Mondays by midnight and I'm a HUGE procrastinator.
