Know of any great sandwich shops in Boston?

I'm interested in any kind of sandwich (banh mi, grinder, club, panino, etc.), just so long as it's fabulous. Where have you had a really delicious sandwich lately?

Oh good lord, where do I begin??
Right downtown in the financial district you need to hit J. Pace & Son's...and get one of the Italian cold cut subs on their fresh seeded rolls -- have them put extra "hots" on there. Or try the "Big Dig" which is prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, basil, oil and balsamic vinegar. Frankly, anything in there will be delish, but I definitely recommend those two.

Go to the North End and ask where to get the best Spucky. Too bad it isnt baseball season I'd highly recomend the sausage king. He should get a storefront.

First step is to get the hell out of Boston proper. In Inman Square, Cambridge you'll find the All-Star Sandwich Bar. It's been one of my favorite spots for everything from traditional sandwiches (think BLT, Gobbler, Reuben) to wackier stuff. I've had 2 different sandwiches there that had chopped liver as one of the several ingredients. Not to mention they have decent beer and awesome pickles. And on your way out, a big bowl of free Oreos for dessert.

For some more specific stuff:
Eagle Deli in Brighton has a great Gobbler and great breakfast sandwiches. I haven't tried any other kinds though.

The Sevens on Beacon Hill has the best Reuben I ever had.

Try Deli-Licious in Davis Square (Somerville, Red Line). They don't look like anything special, but they're great at those giant sub sandwiches that aren't very good for you. And they're friendly like you wouldn't believe. Even if the food was mediocre, I'd still order from them occasionally because they're so nice.

Great suggestions - thanks! I've also heard that Seven Subs in Brookline is really good, as well the banh mi in the Super88 food court.

Go to Dino's on Prince and Hanover in the North End. You won't be sorry.

Also, head over the river into Cambridge and go to the S&S Deli, and get a Monte Cristo.

I think the bahn mei at Super88 is not quite as good at the one in the jewelry store in Chinatown. (Sorry, I can't remember the proper name, but there's barely a sign anyhow. It's near Buddah's Delight.)

I also love Darwin's in Cambridge, one near Inman Square and one near the ART in Harvard Square.

Oxford Spa in Cambridge is a yummy, friendly place--I wouldn't suggest trekking across town for it, but if you find yourself in the Harvard Square area it's a nice lunch spot.

Try Volle Nolle on Hanover St. in the North End. All kinds of sandwiches, not just Italian, and great homemade soup, too.

Chacarero near downtown crossing (worth the line, which moves quickly). Banh Mi at the Quincy Kam Man Marketplace, Zaftigs in Coolidge Corner for great Jewish-deli style stuff, near Andrews Square on Boston Street in Dot you'll find a great, run down old-style convenience store with terrific Polish coldcuts. Tutto Italiano in Hyde Park, Wellesley and Hingham for Italian on the best bread ever.

mister bartley's burger cottage in cambridge. {burgers are sandwiches, right?}

seconding Chacarero.
