Got a Craving?

I was craving buttered popcorn. Went to the movies and scratched that itch. (p.s. Benjamin Button is a l-o-n-g (yawn) movie)

Now, I'm craving roasted butternut squash, with a pat of butter and a sprinkle of nutmeg. I can almost smell and taste it. Must try to get one tomorrow. Haven't decided what to have with it, but that will be the star.

How about you? Craving anything?

Right now, I have the biggest craving for authentic tamales, but all of the shops are closed and now I have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest. Oh, the agony!!!!

Craving pho right now, but when do I not crave pho?

Lately, since we've found Sonic nearby, a 35-45 min drive each way, we've been able to quench my husband's cherry limeade cravings 4-5 times a week. No winter storm is too great to come between him and his cherry limeade.

I never get cravings. My mom is always talking about cravings she has for apple pie, for pineapple milkshakes, for tomato soup. It never happens to me ... until this weekend. It hit hard!

For Christmas my dad and I made turkey mole. I went to bed Friday night dreaming of it. Thankfully, my dad still had some frozen mole. I roasted a chicken, picked it clean, dumped it in a big pot of steaming mole and ate it over white rice. It was f%#&ing delicious.

Sorry Perk, although it was super long--I loved Benjamin Button. And we got the large popcorn for the four of us to share in anticpation of just how long the flick would be. Believe it or not, the kids, (boys 10 and 14) loved it just as much as my husband and I did. Did you know I got struck by lightning...
Regardless, it hit the popcorn craving when I really needed it. Oddly enough, I'm craving a really great Greek salad. I think it may be about wanting something light and yet really zesty. Feta often helps with satisfying those salt cravings.
I also have a craving for my husband's snoring, as odd as that sounds. I have problems sleeping when that buzz saw is roaring in my ear, but now I find myself not being able to sleep without it. He told me that yesterday he go to pet a kangeroo! I'm looking forward to having him home and I'm planning on a special dinner for him also.

Mmm...buttered popcorn...but I like it made at home. I get the healthiest microwave kind so I can put my own REAL butter on it.
I've been craving chocolate more than usual, and crappy classics like Kraft dinner mac & cheese (made with all of the 1/2 stick of butter it calls for) of my beloved pasta-roni parmesano. Curse years of conditioning and salt/fat overload!

Salmon P Wiggle.... think Shit on A Shingle with Salmon.... good enough to wanna make you beat your dog!

Sushi or pho. Anytime, any place.

peanut butter, always lol

I usually respect my cravings. Sometimes, I negotiate with them -- not so much the subject of the cravings (that is usually non-negotiable), but the time line. Not that the time line is always negotiable - sometimes it just has to be right here, right now, come hell or high water.

I'm craving potstickers right now, but I decided about a week ago that I would be making them tomorrow, so it's a very subdued, soon-to-be-satisfied craving.

I get odd cravings at times, but I don't think there is anything I always crave. But I've been known to bake a batch of blueberry muffins at midnight because I had a craving for one. And when I say "one", I mean one - that was all I needed, but you can't bake just one muffin, can you now? Luckily, there is always someone round here who is more than willing to deal with the "craving leftovers". In general though, I think I get more savoury (salty) cravings than sweet (with a notable exception of pistachio ice cream - damn you Meg!:-))

darn "t"sticking..it was "got to" not "go to" pet a kangeroo. Don't ever let your kids eat anything at the computer and please make sure they wash their hands first, please! Gosh, you'd think they were pre-schoolers, but they're actually slobs with the ages of 10 and 14.

@dh - i really want to see that movie -- heard it was fantastic! the smell of popcorn drives me wild!!!!! i crave salt more than sweet.... love anything salty - olives ... my new favorite is a dirty martini - man does that cheer up these winter nights! with some great cheese..... i have some locally made cheese that i've been hoarding since summer. yum. the martini with olives and that cheese ... well.... i'm not responsible for myself at this point.... i'm totally in love with the combination.....:*)

Well, I didn't have a craving until I read this thread. Now I want popcorn and we have none!

Aside from popcorn, I've had a craving over the last few days for Mac and Cheese...broccoli...arizona sweet tea...twice-baked potatoes. Oh, and chocolate. Not all together, of course.

Right now I just finished pizza and I am still craving penne chicken and alfredo sauce. Osso Bucco, shredded barbie pork sandwich, and egg salad sandwiches. But at least I got my 1 1/2 month craving of hot and sour soup.

I want a greek chicken pita, spanakopita and greek fries from the greek joint that is ONLY open M-F 1030-5.

I wasn't craving anything either until I read this thread and now I'm going to have me a lime fruitcicle . . . I bought some fruit flavored bars at the store today. It's 20 degrees outside, so you would think I would want something warm and toasty--but, no, a fruitcicle it will be.

I agree about the yawn on Ben. Button. Just not my cup of tea. But I did see Gran Torino yesterday--awesome!

My eternal craving is for smoked and slathered baby back ribs. Unfortunately, that will only happen when the rain stops and the temperature outside elevates. Nothing in this podunk town comes close, so I am sadly without. Any non-fatty meaty, beefy, porky dish is my second crave....anemia talking.

Got my popcorn fix at My Bloody Valentine 3D last night (fantastic - if you like that sort of thing). Stuffed myself with smoked pork butt for dinner, but would love some creamy, silky chicken and dumplings RIGHT NOW. or a juicy cheeseburger. With fries. Damn this post!!

Chicken and dumplings! Oh my hungryinhouston. I've never had that with butternut squash, but now I'm not sure which craving is strongest. Might have to have the squash another day. Care to share your C&D recipe?

I've been in the Czech Republic for 7 months and am craving some of the simplest things like simple sandwiches, grilled chicken, grilled vegetables, and sushi! I don't have control over the kitchen where I'm staying so, although I could probably make most of this here, I haven't. But I return home to NY next week and plan on cooking all these things right away.

I am soooo proud of my self-control. I've been craving a bag of fritos with a ladle of chili, onions and cheese inside. I'm saving myself for Super Bowl Sunday...

I am dying for kielbasa on a roll w/mustard. Not being one to deny myself, it will probably be my dinner tonight.

I'm lucky in that my cravings tend to be for things I already have in the house. I think about the thing, taste the thing in my mind, desperately need the thing.

Yesterday I had a craving for fritos and a coke zero...luckily there's a vending machine right outside my dorm. : )

My bro-in-law's brussel sprouts - he does something heavenly involving butter and coarsely shredded parmasean and they get little crispy bits on the outside.

Not sure where that came from, but it's been two days now, and I'm not going home again until the end of February...

Thanks to Perky -- add corned beef hash to the list.

It'll probably be several days before I can satisfy this since I probably won't be stopping by a grocery store again until Thursday or Friday.

I also enjoyed Ben Button quite a lot. It was long though.

I go through food rotations where in I only really want to eat one thing all the time. Right now it's frozen whole fruit bars. My children have followed me down the path too. Wonder what the next craving will be? They usually come on hard and last a few weeks. Before the fruit bars it was roast beef sandwiches.

@ Lamora I feel for you hun, I'm severly anemic too and always craving things like a steak or burger, the bloodier the better, unfortunatley,I cant eat them without getting violently ill. Make sure you load up on things like spinach and kale, it helps with the anemia.
As far as other cravings go, I'm having one now for a big bowl or RI clam chowder(clear kind) with a couple of clam fritters for dunking. mmmm

I'm craving (in no particular order): Spicy tuna sushi, sauteed spinach with garlic & olive oil, fatoush, grilled steak tips, stir-fried broccoli and tofu.

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE food, but I don't really crave anything - the only time that happened to me was way back in the "olden days" when I was pregnant - I used to crave milk - I am not a milk drinker and I always felt it was nature's way of telling me I needed the stuff for the developing babies! My kids are in their mid 30's and I don't suppose I have had a glass of milk since they were born.

Brownies. I have been dying for brownies for a few weeks now. And I know they're so easy & fast to make, but I'm trying so hard to eat healthy right now. Of course, I should probably give in & just make them, and I then I wouldn't crave them for several months probably. Last week it was Publix's brand of Mint Chocolate Cookie Crunch frozen yogurt - despite the fact that it's freezing here and snowed two days last week. The fact that it's frozen yogurt made me feel not quite so guilty, but I polished off that half gallon pretty fast, so I don't know that it made that much difference anyway. And of course, there's peanut butter. I pretty much have a constant craving for peanut butter that basically never goes away...

For those craving popcorn, go see Gran Torino and get your fix. Excellent movie to go with your popcorn.

@dhorst "There I was just walkin ma dog......." @Perk I crave bread ALL the time....fresh baked sourdough, Italian, French, salted rye, all with good Irish butter, anytime, anywhere!

@kimberlymac - yes - peanutbutter! It's really expensive here, though; so I raid my mom's cupboard when I go home. Last time I picked up a replacement jar of "peanuts and salt, that's all" on the way to her house from the airport and ended up eating the one that was in her cupboard plus part of the one I intended to replace it with :-)

pizza. Ive had the craving since last night, and I could probably have it for lunch today, but I brought my lunch. Should I eat the lunch that I brought or satisfy my craving?

Luckily for me, if I don't satisfy my craving immediately, which is often impossible, it goes away. Yesterday I was craving HÄAGEN-DAZS coffee ice cream, but didn't have time to go get any. Today it is something I could take or leave, just 'meh'. Right this moment I'm craving sauteed spinach with garlic, cos someone else mentioned it. I might stop by the grocery later and pick up some spinach, cos I know it will be a great side, craving or not, to go with the chicken I'm roasting for dinner. I will not, however, be buying ice cream. (Well, now I'm craving roast chicken, and wishing it wasn't so long until dinner)

I usually have a craving for "bad" chinese food. You know the chinese food that you get from the buffet that you know is not the greatest quality in the world but still love anyway.

@bareneed - you just described me exactly! I'm 7 months along and have been CRAVING milk every day since about month 2. No other cravings to speak of, and I was never a milk drinker before -- lactose intolerant! Fortunately organic lactose-free milk is readily available. But I'm so glad to hear this is "normal"!

You must have been reading my mind -- I actually think I may be preggers because I find myself with uncontrollable cravings, especially lately. For me it's been for Kale and for pink grapefruit. Not together, of course. I think I've eaten my weight in Kale over the past month, and I just polished off a bag of pink grapefruit over the course of 3 days.

Lately cravings abound- spanish rice, steamed dumplings, and guacomole!

OK....now I'm craving chicken and noodle stuffed smoked pork butt with ice cream and buttered pop corn on top....thanks you guys! ;-)

@mepolo you are insane! but count me in ;-) actually everyone (PERKY) got me in the mood for corned beef hash. so the other half is upset because leftover corned beef is being made into hash as we speak instead of allowing him to devour it cold with no sides except a bowl of spicy mustard, (I think he's part caveman)

Pile the blame on me.......ha ha! @mepolo, you must post a photo of the chicken and noodle stuffed smoked pork butt with ice cream and buttered popcorn on top. I'd advise one more layer of corned beef hash and eggs with a cherry on the top, if you truly are seeking perfection.

@huney ~ please express my deepest sympathy to your OH, and save me some leftovers? ;-)

Last week when I had pnuemonia, I was craving Chinese food: veggie Lo Mein and Beef & Broccoli to be exact. Now that I can have it? Not so much. Haven't really had any cravings since I was sick which is very unlike me. I usually have at least one craving a week where I have to have that food and nothing else will satisfy me.

Oh Lawd, have I got a list for you... This is my 2nd week of low carbing and it has not been easy. I could easily devour an entire box of shells and cheese, several sushi rolls, and chase it with some popcorn and peanut butter m&ms.

Mmmm... Starch dreams.

Mongolian BBQ! There isn't a good one around me so I only get it every once in a while when I go home to visit my parents. I may have to make a trip soon.

Oh and then there is lumpia, but I always crave that :)

Sushi, hamburgers, potato chips, and pasta . . . if I think about them, I crave them.

Pretty much anything i can't get here. Real bratwurst, WI frozen custard, Churros con chocolate (the spanish kind, not mexican) and a big hunk of Cabot extra-sharp cheddar cheese.

I totally satisfied my Kielbasa craving about 15 minutes ago with 2 (count 'em) 2 rolls w/the almighty Kiel and mustard. I don't have to tell you how good it was, as you all seem to have the same understanding of a serious food jones. Now, since the very evil @percymac's Hash thread, I'm jonesing for that now. Will it ever end? I sorta hope not, because so much of the fun of eating is exactly this very thing.

@perkymac - I do so love your questions.

MEXICAN FOOD. Good ol Southern food. Popcorn (b/c you can't really find it where I am in France). Starbucks. And, melon. Ha.

@perky & huney....ok...I think my hubby would definitely leave me if I served that to him for dinner! hehehe....
The ice cream w/buttered popcorn on time might be interesting though!
Corned beef hash does sound good....I was going to make chicken cutlets tonight...I might have to stop at the store for a hunk of corned beef now!

Every night I crave some sushi, but I sigh and eat a [large] bowl of twigs-and-bark-10g-of-fiber cereal instead. (And sometimes I make some sushi for lunch the next day...)
