Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?

I just bought some rolled oats, and I was wondering what everyone's favorite oatmeal concoctions were. So far I'm going with some dried fruit, brown sugar, and a little real maple syrup. Any thoughts?

A little brown sugar, toasted pecans, diced apples, dried cranberries & half and half--hearty and delicious!

I love baked oatmeal, which is basically just baked oats, eggs, and sugar. Interestingly, I first ate this in my college cafeteria, but it's still good to me!

Try oatmeal pancakes the oatmeal is soaked in buttermilk and then made into pancakes, it's like, almost good for you.

When I get on the "clean" eating kick I start the day with oatmeal. I like to add a little brown sugar and cinnamon, and for a real nice addition, throw in some yogurt covered raisins. I like the vanilla ones best.

I make granola, cherry carob cookies , I add it to smoothies to add some soluble fiber and a friend uses it to "bread" eggplants to be fried.

I eat oatmeal most mornings for breakfast. I alternate toppings frequently, but my favorites are Peanut Butter and Jelly Oats (oats + peanut butter + chopped pecans + cinnamon + vanilla + water/milk, cooked up, with a bit of good preserves, ground flax and almond milk stirred in at the end) and Carrot Cake Oats (oats + nut butter--almond is great + chopped walnuts + cinnamon + ground cloves + ground ginger + shredded or sliced carrots + raisins + vanilla + water/milk, cooked up, with a bit of agave nectar or maple syrup stirred in at the end).

I like oatmeal in cookies, granola, a topping of on top of cobblers or mazurkas, or as a bottom of a fruit bar. As far as eating it just plain I like it with lots of choc chips, butter brown suger and a tiny bit of cream.

Pumpkin Oats with 1/3 cup oats (2/3 cup water), 1/2 cup pumpkin, 1/4-1/2 cup milk, cinnamon, sweetener of choice. Make the oatmeal first, then stir in the other ingredients. If I'm feeling naughty, I'll sprinkle the top with diced nuts and/or a few chocolate chips :)

I'm so boring when it comes to oatmeal, but I treat it like a savory dish instead of sweet. I just add a little butter and salt. And the only oatmeal I'll eat is the steel cut -- I've tried the instant and the rolled, but I only like those for things like cookies.

I don't ever eat oatmeal, but I make granola and granola bars for family and friends.

My MIL eats her oatmeal with salt, garlic and tomato sauce or olive oil.

When I want to get decadent with my oatmeal, I make chocolate peanut butter oats - something my mom occasionally made when my sisters and I were kids. She used Chocolate Ovaltine to sneak in extra vitamins/minerals. I'm sure it is just as good with dutch/regular cocoa but I still use Ovaltine today along with natural crunchy PB. No need for additional sugar unless you like your oatmeal very sweet. The taste is reminiscent of those no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies the elementary school cafeteria used to serve. Sometimes I like to add a sliced banana to the concoction to make it my oatmeal version of Chunky Monkey.

Oh, chocolate cinnamon oatmeal with/without a pinch of cayenne is good, too.

You can find some others, but this one is pretty close to my recipe.

Love it.

I like mine with a good sized chuck of butter, some whole milk, cinnamon, raisins and brown sugar...pretty standard

I cut up half a banana and cook it in with the oats. If you make them in the mirowave put the banana in with the oats and water, and i use a bit of salt and perhaps a few raisins. i cook it for a min or so, and then mix it all together, and cook it for another min-min and a half. it makes it super creamy and delicious without using milk.
when it's done i add cinn and a little bit of sweetner. it's amazing...

I add a little bit of maple syrup to the water whem simmering it.

Here's what I put in mine:

Long-cooked oats
bran
pinch of salt
brown sugar OR a dash of real maple syrup
cinnamon
chopped nuts (pecans or walnus)
handful of dried fruit (craisins, dried blueberries, dried apricots, etc.)
I use milk to make the oatmeal instead of water. This is a good idea for women who need to sneak calcium into our diets.

I'm a little different..like mine with little salt and pepper plus some cheese mixed in. Sometimes some low fat sour cream and bacon bits. Not one to get excited over sweet additions.

I like rolled oats with a bit of vanilla extract, brown sugar, walnuts, raisins and soymilk. It makes the house smell amazing and goes great with your morning coffee!

I usually add brown sugar, cinnamon, soy milk, and then either blueberries, mixed berries, strawberries, or dried cranberries or cherries.

Call me a traditionalist, but I usually go with a little brown sugar, milk and raisins. Sometimes I will replace the brown sugar with a tablespoon or so of vanilla whey powder, which sweetens and adds more protein to keep me fuller longer through the day. Sneaky (but delicious) way to eat more protein...

I go for sugar, a little milk and some hazelnut coffee creamer.

I combine old-fashioned oats (for chewiness) with some quick oats (for creaminess). Ratio: 50-50. Then butter and a bit of salt. Or a drizzle of maple syrup.

Another really cool dish is Bircher muesli. Mix uncooked oats with plain yogurt, add some grated apple and diced orange (or any fruit you like), and let sit for a few hours or overnight. The oats absorb the liquid and soften, and the whole thing becomes like an oaty rice pudding. Sweeten with honey if needed. Excuse me while I go whip up a batch for tomorrow...

I will cook my oatmeal in the microwave, following the directions on the package. Before cooking a single serving, I add 3-4 dried cherries. When it is done, I sprinkle with a few chopped walnuts and some brown sugar. Serve with milk or half and half.

I neglected to mention in my post above: Bircher muesli is eaten cold - sitting should take place in refrigerator, please.

@brooke29--You don't eat oats and you make granola bars, not flapjacks!?! For shame! ;)

Like dbcurrie, at present I'm a bit of a traditionalist with oatmeal--if the oats are good and cooked well, I like them plain with a bit of sweetener. In the past, I've stirred in peanut butter, and in decadent moments, butter or honey.

I like dried fruit in other things, but think that they become 'weird' in oatmeal because they either soak up the liquid too much or get dried out when cooking. Nuts tend to lose their flavor.
