Do You Always Eat Breakfast for Breakfast?

I ask this because at the moment I'm enjoying a very tasty Pret Caesar Salad for breakfast. While I do love my Cheerios, I'm a huge fan of soup or salad for breakfast also. Or a yummy grilled cheese. Or occasionally even kimchi ramen.

How about you?

I have half a pan of martha's mac n cheese left over from Sunday night, and had a little square of it for breakfast yesterday. There is a strong possibility that I will be repeating that today.

my usual breakfast when I eat anything is hummus and crackers. eggs and other "breakfast foods" I usually save for dinners.

i actually love cold leftovers for breakfast. Cold steak is my favorite hands down. But normally it's just toast and coffee unfortunately.

I'll eat just about anything for breakfast. Likewise, I love breakfast for dinner.

I pretty much eat anything, anytime, anywhere.

I usually don't eat breakfast at all ... I feel sick to my stomach if I eat within the first couple of hours after waking up, but if I do eat something it's usually a non breakfast food - like cold fried chicken or leftover fried rice.
2 to 3 cups of good strong coffee is my breakfast.

Sometimes I'll have cold pizza from the night before, even cold fried chicken.

I usually have cereal or something else breakfasty but sometimes I'll have pizza or cake. My mom makes a killer chocolate sheet cake and whenever there were leftovers I'd eat it for breakfast. Bill Cosby would be proud.

I adore breakfast foods, but can't really make breakfast each morning before running out the door to work, and I quickly tired of the portable items like granola bars, oatmeal, yogurt, so I moved on to sandwiches. I eat a lot of sandwiches for breakfast-- this week has been cream cheese and sprouts. I also love grilled cheese or soup for breakfast, when I have the time in the mornings.

most mornings, i have chamchi kimbap because there's a place on my way to school.
i'm not breakfast person, if i do want breakfast, it's a fruit or a veggie. none of that carby, sweet breakfast pastry stuff.

I get on breakfast food kicks and burn myself out, unfortunately. I did mini stratas for a while (everyday for at least a month), egg/english muffin sandwiches, open face poached egg sandwiches in the morning, and cereal w/ yogurt/milk/berries/etc. I am a fan of leftovers for breakfast, but with a day job, I've been better at remembering that it would better serve me as lunch instead.

Nope, I love leftovers/savory food for breakfast. Cold pasta? Check. Chinese food? Check. Burritos? Check. A Caesar salad for breakfast sounds perfect: tangy, refreshing and just filling enough.

@huneybumper: Hummus and crackers is an awesome breakfast idea. I'm stealing that from you, and adding grapes. : )

Sometimes I do. But my favorite breakfasts are cold leftover pizza and Chinese food.

I have oatmeal for breakfast everyday. I love oatmeal too much to moss a chance to eat it.

traditional breakfast foods (eggs, pancakes, cereal, oatmeal) are some of my favorite lunch/dinner foods. it's not worth trashing the kitchen for eggs/bacon or pancakes that early in the morning.

I love pasta or noodles for breakfast. I'd much rather have breakfast foods at lunch or dinner.

I always have an omelet for breakfast. Every day. It's always a different stuffing or topping I add to it, but an omelet nontheless. Even if I go out to a nice brunch place, I get the coolest looking omelet.

So to answer your question, yes... I always eat breakfast for breakfast. Sometimes even for lunch and dinner too.

Generally speaking...no, I don't eat non-breakfast foods for breakfast. The only exception to that would be dessert. I love a slice of cake or a cookie or brownie for my breakfast. Must be because it goes with the coffee. But if I do that, I also try to eat some fruit and/or yogurt as well, just so I don't feel quite as guilty. And while I love cold pizza, I can't imagine eating it for breakfast. All that said, I can absolutely eat traditional breakfast foods at any time of the day. I eat omelettes or eggs with toast/muffins or hash browns for lunch or dinner probably 3-4 times per week, and for years as a kid, my mom made waffles every Wednesday night for dinner. We'd eat one plain (or with syrup or fruit), and then one with ice cream as dessert. It was great. I should start that tradition up again....

Growing up, I couldn't eat in the morning at all. When I was in my late teens I had an ulcer and was told by my doctor that I absolutely had to start eating regularly, which had to include breakfast. The only food I could eat in the morning for the longest time was soup - so to me, even years later, soup is one of the "normal" breakfast foods:-), even though I've graduated to other breakfast foods since. I often eat salad for breakfast, too.

Come to think of it, the only time I eat breakfast for breakfast is weekends - when OH and I have a lazy brunch together.

Nobody eats dessert for breakfast? I love a good brekkie pie

Breakfast food is my favorite type of food, so we usually have it for dinner. For breakfast during the week I always have a protein/granola bar, and on the weekends we make wonderful, wonderful brunch. Anything from traditional American breakfasts (pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs) to decadent (popovers with jam and butter) to Norwegian (fresh bread, butter, pickled herring, gravlax and a cheese plate).

i hate it to be morning and wish it would go away. so i need to coddle my stomach with bland foods. if i'm home, that's oatmeal and fruit.

i'm doing the bittman vegan for lunch and dinner diet, so no more eggs for breakfast.

Depends on what's left over from last night. Most mornings I eat something and once in a while I'll have a bowl of cereal Leftovers are my usual so I guess no I don't eat breakfast food in the morning.

I haven't tried salad for breakfast, but love leftover savory stuff... salmon in particular. Or hummus, anything savory!

I love all kinds of leftovers for breakfast and the occasional sandwich. Leftover pizza, sushi, and pasta are the best!

I usually don't eat until 3-4 hours after I have been up. Once in a while I'll have a small omelette or an egg over medium with a slice of ww toast. Usually it's cheese and crackers or leftover pizza or cottage cheese with a green salad. Oh, and soup. But never something sweet--no muffins, doughnuts, cereal, or anything with maple syrup. My husband has Cheerios every weekday-no sugar and usually eggs on the weekend. The kids tend to like bagels or toast with peanutbutter or a plain omelette-- "Don't forget the chives, Mom," my youngest always says. Persnickety little bugger.

If I have to, I can eat a big apple or pear for breakfast, but most of the time I go for some sort of grain (cereal, oatmeal) with half a banana or berries. No bread or toast, nothing elaborate. I will, however, happily eat "breakfast" foods like tofu scramble for dinner.

nope - I love leftovers for breakfast, especially cold spaghetti with red sauce. and i love breakfast for dinner.

@Junie Tribe now sells hummus is single serving cups of about 100 calories each, even though I hate the 100 calorie phenom, these are very handy if you're on the go.
@Brooke a lazy weekend breakfast is the best! Especially if I can get SO to fix one of his all day omlets, or for me they are actually a three day omlet, eat one and you dont need to eat again for 3 days.

@michichan
I love desserts for breakfast too. especially apple pie. or birthday cake...

just this morning i had sushi i'd made last night for breakfast. (not to worry; no fish--just spicy avocado!).

and yesterday, before i'd even made it to work, i pulled my dessert out of the lunch i'd packed and ate that for breakfast (lemon curd on sourdough). so naturally, i had to go buy a pastry after lunch.

I can't even think about food until I've been up a couple hours. A cold drink and maybe a couple cookies is enough. But I often have a big, full-blown breakfast before I go to bed at 4-5am. For me breakfast is the last meal of the day.

Always lots of coffee and if I have rye bread I make grilled cheese, or my favorite is 3 or 4 steamed pork shu mai. I freeze the batch then just steam a few.

The traditional breakfast at my BFF's parents' house during the winter holidays is stollen, rum cake, or fruit pie accompanied by either bacon, ham or sausage (because no meal in South Dakota is complete without meat). We usually accompany with beer. Breakfast of champions!

I don't eat breakfast food for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I will only eat leftovers or savory foods. I will have a smoothie from time to time, but I don't consider them a meal food.

I love hearing this. You know, it's funny, at my office - I often warm my soup in the microwave. People smell it. They know it's me, because who else eats soup for breakfast? I feel way less weird now.

Oh, you know what's also great? Rice balls. For you NYer's, I work near oms/b and will often get 3 rice balls - umebushi, wasabi/ginger, and spicy tuna. I usually usually eat my first meal 2 or 3 hours after I get up, can't imagine doing it before that.

I often make an omelet for dinner. Go figure. Basically, I don't care what time it is. I eat what I eat.

Wow, didn't know so many people ate non-breakfast foods for breakfast. I always have to have some type of cereal for breakfast, usually granola. Or fruit and yogurt.

I had a beautiful panini with Italian fontina, swiss, roasted asparagus, and ham for breakfast this morning with a cup of coffee. That's breakfast food right lol?

I generally only eat breakfast foods for breakfast on the weekend when I have time to make them. Otherwise, I love eggs for dinner.

I bring a sandwich or soup to work for breakfast almost every day. My coworkers think I'm strange too but I eat soup for breakfast far more often than I eat it for lunch. It's my "oatmeal": warm and filling to start my day. And it's easy to eat at my desk without taking a real break. I can't do sweets for breakfast, not even OJ.

Eat Breakfast for Breakfast! Does that sound like a David Bowie lyric or what? (Small Jean Genie eats breakfast for breakfast)
Some foods I eat upon waking up are traditional breakfast foods, but sometimes I'd have a grilled cheese or mac-n-cheese. I like yogurt and fruit for breakfast, which is good any-time-of-day food

Italian Cheese Toast (leftover pizza) makes a good breakfast, so do many types of soup

My favorite atypical breakfast food would be spaghetti with tomato sauce...next would be pizza...and I don't even bother reheating them. ;-)

I only like breakfast food for breakfast. During the week, honey nut cheerios with cold milk and a banana at my desk at work -- something a little more involved on the weekend; french toast, eggs and hashbrowns, toad in the hole -- but never, never, never pizza. I don't even really like pizza when it's fresh let alone leftover and in the morning.

I have a standard daily breakfast that consists of tofu, Muir Glen stewed tomotoes, one egg, 1/4 cup egg beaters, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and nutmeg all topped with fresh Cilantro. And, a grapefruit on the side.

If I eat breakfast, it's a toasted something with marmalade and coffee. More likely, I'll have lunch for breakfast, and breakfast for dinner. Didja get that?

I'll eat breakfast for dinner, but not the other way around--can't stomach it. Breakfast is usally cereal (something non-sweet, like Cheerios or Total, or oatmeal), fruit & coffee and on the weekends it's something fabulous like spinach, sun-dried-tomato and cheese omelettes. Sometimes I'll boil a dozen eggs and keep those in the fridge for breafast, with toast & coffee.

I love non-standard food for breakfast. I hide leftover chinese and pizza in the fridge so my husband can't find it and I can eat it the next morning. When I'm travelling and stop at a fast food place early in the morning I always ask if they can fix me a burger.

I love breakfast. I'm usually famished within a couple of hours of waking up. I eat whatever is available or easy to make so usually that is breakfast food for me :)

mostly i eat eggs for breakfast because i'm obsessed with them. but not always breakfast eggs. sometimes i'll just top poached eggs over whatever i had for dinner the night before and call it breakfast. oh and i drop an egg in my ramen and eat that for breakfast about once a week, with spinach if i've got it.

Savory breakfasts are awesome. I'm a big fan of ful for breakfast (fava beans slow cooked and topped with a poached egg). Recipe can be found here if interested.

A lot of weekends I'll wake up and eat my leftovers from the night before for breakfast, but I do wake up later. Still, rigatoni and vodka sauce for breakfast = bliss. They do say you should eat all your carbs in the morning! :)

Chew on That

isn't that why Denny's and IHOP were created? So we can have breakfast at 3:30 in the AM with poorly dressed college students and half-cocked drunk people coming out of bars?

I usually eat traditional breakfast foods for breakfast (and sometimes dinner too, when the hubby's away) -- but I'll certainly never turn down leftover pizza in the morning! If I have leftover apple crisp in the fridge I'll have a few bits of that too -- but only after having something else.

I used to skip breakfast since I don't want to get up any earlier than I have too. Now I go with muffins. I make a ton of muffins (usually 3 different kinds) and freeze them. In the morning, I pop one or two in the microwave for 30 sec and then eat it while getting ready. This month I've have pumpkin-cranberry muffins, banana-pecan muffins, and coconut-raspberry muffins.

I love breakfast at non-breakfast times. and the ideas here are just amazing for both breakfast types food and the non-breakfast morning foods!

my favorite non-breakfasty morning meal ever has to be in Jaipur where they have milk and jalebis for breakfast.

I eat a variety - I was lusting over leftover singapore noodles this morning, but knew my Prilosec hadn't kicked in yet.

I don't eat breakfast, but love breakfast for lunch.

Most days I have miso soup for breakfast.

My favorite brekkie is a big bowl of steel-cut oatmeal, subdivided to provide a 2/3 portion "entree" and a 1/3 "dessert. The entree I spike with a bit of salt and either dark sesame oil OR evoo and 1/2 tsp od crushed garlic. The dessert portion gets a daub of butter and a bit of brown sugar for after.

Absolutely not! Breakfast for dinner is not only quick and easy but it's fun. I do that sometimes when BF is away on business, I have no leftovers to kill and don't feel like cooking.

And what's better at 3:00 a.m. after a night of clubbing than a greasy fried egg breakfast with home fries and toast?

I don't eat breakfast as often as I should, but I have been known to makea grill cheese, or a salad as well. I'm even known to sometimes crank up the charcoal grill before 10:00AM.

I am over breakfast foods right now, since I am allergic to eggs and intolerant to wheat. I love to make potatoes, sweet potatoes or squash and a big salad. Pretty much anything goes at breakfast these days!

Yes! Well, that is unless I happen to wake up after noon, but even then most of the time I still eat my regular breakfast, it's a ritual with me. It's my favorite meal of the day.

I retired just about a year ago, after 34 years of teaching. While I was working, my breakfast varied between a chew-bar [Kashi's Roasted Almond Crunch] and a bagel w/ cream cheese (despite being in a rural district in upstate NY, our school cafeteria had fresh bagels available each morning). The choice of the morning would be downed w/ a few swigs of bottled water.

Now that I've retired, I must admit that my favorite breakfasts are leftovers - either Chinese leftovers, or homemade leftovers - right now, the latter is baked macaroni. The Chinese I reheat, but macaroni, etc. I usually go at straight out of the fridge. [I feel I must note that my wife is still working, and so I can pretty much raid the fridge for whatever "breakfast" I find.]

However, if I have to go out early in the morn for a dr appt, or to do shopping (yes, I'm generally the grocery shopper @ the house), I usually wind up w/ a bagel and coffee @ the local DD.

I have to have something sweet in the mornings - so if it's a bagel it has to be cinnamon raisin with sweet honey raisin cream cheese - I love whitefish salad on pumpernickel bagels but it would seem heresy to have one first thing! I can easily eat something like carrot cake or a scone with jam and quark - or leftover plum or apricot crumble if I've had people round for dinner. And of course there's there traditional post Thanksgiving pumpkin-pie-for-breakfast the day after... and since I am British, mince pies for breakfast throughout December - only the posh ones from fancy bakeries though. In fact I had one this morning with some fromage frais on the side.

I love breakfast, from pancakes and maple syrup to eggs benedict. But for me, nothing beats a bowl of cereal, or oatmeal in the winter. It hits the spot everytime, and I could quite happily eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I love eating non-breakfast foods for breakfast. As for savories, I love soup, salads and sandwiches--for sweets, I love birthday cake, and desserts typically served after dinner: cheesecake, truffles, pudding, etc.
