Dinner and a Show, Movie and Popcorn: What Else?

Many traditional dates involve an activity and food. Like the above-mentioned, or a walk in the park and a picnic, skating and hot chocplate.

What other pairs of food and activities can you think of?

My boyfriend, now DH took me to an adult Chuckie Cheese-type place on our first date. We had a blast, and his kid-like enjoyment of ski-ball and PacMan kinda endeared him to me. Then he ordered a pizza and asked what was my favorite topping. I said black olives. He chose shrimp. Unbeknownst to either of us, we each hated the other's selection, but we bravely ate away. Three years later, we were at the altar. I guess opposites attract.

I guess it's the same thing, but my boyfriend and I don't really like the idea of going out to dinner and then out to the movies. Maybe it's because we're both broke from flying across the country to hang out with each other in the first place.

We have Blockbuster nights. He picks the movies and I pick what I want to cook. He's my sous chef, though I don't give him much responsibility because he doesn't cook. I'll make EVERYTHING and I'll let him fold the egg rolls or something.

I've also noticed that long nights of drinking usually lead to a greasy diner date afterwards. Those nights are fun.

NYC and PIZZA

Non-traditional date or night out:
All-night online gaming → 4 am IHOP run (we burnt out Steak n Shake)

Observing at a restaurant:
Woman eating [most expensive dish on menu] → activity that may require some form of prophylactic

Snowboarding and then sitting in the lodge with some yummy hot drinks is fun and river rafting and then at the end have drinks and a wonderful lunch. Go canoeing with a extra canoe in tow with the supplies get to a beautiful spot tie up and start pulling out the drinks, sushi, fried chicken, all types of yum yums.

Sitting in the living room watching (anything) with a roaring fire and Ina Garten's White Hot Chocolate with my homemade scones.

Yes, we've made a fire about every other day since moving to ATL...LOL.

Hiking in Ithaca and checking out the gorges are always accompanied by granola bars and H2O, followed by grilling burgers and dogs or chicken and steak and perhaps some corn on the cob by Cayuga lake.
Sledding equals hot cocoa and some soup or chili when we get home.
Board games are served with cheese and crackers or nachos.
Soft pretzels with nacho cheese sauce for the video gamers.
Swimming is always better with a cook out.
And well, camping just always elevates the flavor of any food to heavenly.

It is going to sound strange, but we go out to Wa state quite often and when we are camping out there we almost always have one day where its an "us" day. We're usually with his family and his best friend even camping, and thats wonderful, but we take one day and drive out to the sound and spend the day walking the "beach" and gathering mussels, then we grill them on the fire and have our own picnic with a bottle of wine and some good artisan bread we picked up on the way.

Coffee and the newspaper (or internet..haha)
Since I quit smoking, I had to replace the "after" cigarette with chocolate. ;0
Baseball and hot dogs.
Birthday/Anniversary/Retirement celebrations always go with cake.
Moving day and pizza.

@pjracz - I totally associate boarding/skiiing/winter sports and a warm beverage--it's annual for me. I couldn't imagine a year without it!

• gravy and mashed potatoes on Christmas/Thanksgiving
• candy-apples and the circus
• mini-dougnuts and the fair
• camomille tea and my novel
• gingerbread and Christmas
• pretzels and mustard on the streets of Germany
• hot-summer day and a 7-11 Slurpee

Movie Night at home = homemade pizza in front of the fireplace.

If the kids aren't there:
Movie Night at home = king crab legs, melted butter w/garlic, crusty bread and early-to-bed!!!! ;o)

AAAAH! @juliebugs - Oh jeez I want to visit when you send the kids off! I'll just sneak in to have a taste of the crab and crusty bread and then leave you "KIDS" alone haha

Hiking and granola bars and PB+J
Baked oatmeal brunch
Digging clams and homemade chowder
drinking and diner breakfast
Rented movies and take out mexican ( we have a great local burrito bar)

Hiking and outdoor activities don't have to be accompanied by granola bars (sorry, I just can't choke those things down). My bf likes to get water crackers, a nice cheese, and smoked salmon for stuff like that. We'll be on a hillside in middle of nowhere Utah or the west Texan desert ... and out comes a gourmet-like snack :P We usually only have one pocket knife on us, so whoever is weilding it (for the cheese) has to feed the other person. It's mostly stupid, but it always feels so cute.

Apple picking = apple cider donuts/hot apple cider
sledding = hot cocoa and popcorn
day at the beach = cherries, ham sandwiches & cokes in the cooler
night after a day at the beach = low country boil, or clam bake
bike ride on VT trails in autumn = wine, cabot's sharp cheddar, loaf of french bread, hard salami, grapes in the bike basket.

@Perky - we had a "moving day and bread sticks":-)
DVD or On Demand and home made pizza
A day at Great Adventure and hot dogs
blueberry picking and sandwiches with iced coffee in a picnic basket
anything else picking and hash browns from Wawa
puppy-picking and diner (happened only twice:-))
Chinatown and dumplings

@ Perky and brooke:
Last two times I have moved (which have incidently been in the last two years) I've sat in the floor in the middle of a box-laden apartment and eaten watermelon. Both times it's been over 90 degrees, and nothing quite hit the spot like some cold watermelon.

Flathead Lake(Polson,MT) and fresh Flathead cherries. There's nothing else I can say that tops that twosome.

For me moving day is always Chinese.

Yard or other outdoor work requires beer.

Exam prep requires coffee and creepily extended subsistence on kibble-like food (trail mix, popcorn, cereal, etc.).

Pub crawling and street vendor food (kebab, brat, tacos, depending on city).

Costco and a hot dog.
When my sister and I go we always get 2 drinks and a dog to split...where else can you get that for just over $2 total in Minneapolis?

Another favorite - Ikea and a cone (on the way out)

Our mom always got a bag of popcorn and a soda when we went to Target as kids...probably to keep us quiet so now we tend to enjoy snacks while shopping.

@cooksforone. I have routine for Target too. Before I start shopping I hit up the Starbucks in my Target and get myself something with lots of caffine and two cookies and two Horizon milks for my two toddlers. That usually gets us through the store quite smoothly!

@cooksforone. Me too! The only hot dogs I eat are the costco ones after a looooong day of shopping!

At our house, it's coffee with Bailey's and blueberry pancakes with Sunday Football.

For our family road trip = IHOP breakfast, Wendy's lunch and Denny's dinner. (Healthy huh? at least the road is the only time we eat at these places).
Ikea and swedish meatballs and cinnamon buns.
Mall= starbucks- winter hot cocoa, summer frappucino.
Amusement park= frozen lemonade and hot pretzel.
Yacht club= frozen banana margaritas by the pool.

How could I forget - Ikea, gravlax and meatballs (and yes, I make both gravlax and meatballs at home, but come on!)

Costco shopping and hot dog.
Mall shopping and Auntie Anne's pretzel.
Thrift store shopping and Chinese food.
Farmer's Market and hot dog, then roasted corn.
Kids' doctor appointment followed by ice cream (to help forget about the shots).
Euchre night and whatever awesome appetizers my boss & I come up with, plus wine.

Well it's award show season so that means settling in with the Golden Globes/SAG Awards/Oscars a bottle of something with bubbles good cheese and crusty bread.

Ahhhh, ice skating and hot chocolate.

Costco and Pizza
Chistmas shopping in NYC and hot chocolate
Mall shopping and a sample of a cinnamon pretzel
Fiestas de San Sebatian - an "alcapurria" and a "bacalaito"... this is for all you Puerto Ricans out there!!!!!!!!

Aw man you guys are quite romantic. I'm taking notes for whenever my dating/relationship era comes around again.

nascar races and red hot dogs, and corndogs,
a morbid tour of east providence and ice cream
cooking bacon almost naked
flower show and stand food
him cooking and me watching tv with my feet up

Whipped cream and other Delights.

Here in Ottawa the best (cheap) date is skating on the Rideau Canal then hot chocolate and Beavertails.

airplane or train travel requires the most self indulgent lunch i can pack, usually involving lots of butter, milk chocolate, and french bread.
