Cool Foodie Store in Atlanta

BF and I took a little excursion and went here this afternoon. What fun! A nice selection of Le Creuset, Emile Henry, gadgets, gizmos, and knives. Saw a pot rack or two we might grab and they had the gelmats for the kitchen floor. The store staff was very friendly.

Apparently, Alton Brown lives here! He visits Harry's Whole Foods in Marietta and also makes an appearance at Cook's Warehouse as well.

That's cool chiff. Glad to hear you are enjoying Atlanta.

You make me consider moving to Atlanta:-) Especially with all this snow round here...

Being from Atlanta I can tell you that Cook's Warehouse is great - if they don't have it they can get it. I've special ordered a few things through them and had great service.

For another cool, if pricey, place check out Star Provisions (attached to and in front of Bacchanalia restaurant). They have tools, toys, and food (both prepared and ready-to-be-prepared).

@Renoles - We've been to Star Provisions. It's beautiful and as you state, pricey. More for wandering and looking vs. wandering and buying. I did grab some risotto rice and deep dark coffee beans. It's not a really big store but rather it looks as though it started out one unit and ate up a couple of others. Any other recommendations?? :D

@ Chiff...please go to The Varsity and if you cannot take eating there, at least sit at a table and watch the scenery. Gourmet? Not a chance. A one in a lifetime thing? Absolutely.

I posted the lettuce wraps fakeroni on the tea thread for you, too.

WAIT! Also, if you get a chance to go to Underground Atlanta, its also a strange and must see tv kinda place! Have so much fun!

Chelley - BF promised an old work associate he'd go to the Varsity at least once. I can see what you mean about "if you can stand to eat there." I think I did the most guilt-free option and had a dog with mustard. I ate a couple of the fries that accompanied the dog and they were really good. It's fun to watch the car hops! It's a huge drive up a la Sonic and definitely an institution in ATL. And having visited once doesn't mean we'll never go back - the dogs are really good.

Thanks for the fakeout PF Chang's post!

Re: Underground - never been! Thanks for the reminder.

yeah, ATL has some good eats. Shirley Corriher calls it home, too.

I've been in Atlanta for about ten years, and my hubby and I take off on "food safari" every couple of weeks or so. Star Provisions and Cooks Warehouse are often on the list of stops. So are Patel Brothers Indian grocery in the Decatur area (cheapest spices ever!), the Dekalb County farmers' market, and a fave of mine, Buford Hwy Farmers market, which isn't really a farmers' market, but you can find ANYTHING you need for any kind of Asian, Indian, or Latin cooking there, and a great variety of seafood.

@Allison...No way! I love Shirley Corriher...No wonder she found her way onto Alton's show so often.

@Mnemosyne...Thanks for the recommendations for the farmer's markets. Ever been to Harry's Whole Foods? Holy mackerel! It's huge.

Today we had brunch at the Ria's Bluebird Diner. I had the brisket breakfast and BF had the huevos but we were in each other's dishes so much it was hard to know who was eating what. Delicious fare and reasonably priced. It is very small and waits are not only possible but probable. I saw the Bluebird on This Is Atlanta Cooking which reminds me so much of Great Chefs of the West it's uncanny. I recognized the chef so I went up and shook her hand. Great food and a seriously eclectic little place.
